Seat Belts 3-point on a 64
Pics of 3-point Seat Belts from Brothers Truck parts on a 64.
The mounting instructions that came with the kit were hand drawn 2 dimensional and virtually useless. Also, the kit was missing all of the mounting nuts. The black lines are outlines of the sill plates when installed. I wanted to avoid seat belt bracket interference with the sill plates. The passenger side worked pretty well although I did have to bend the angle bracket about 3 degrees. The driver side bracket location was a challenge. The hole in the floor needed to be drilled about 3/8" forward of the floor brace to allow clearance for the nut and washer. Consequently the belt recoil mechanism had to be located about 1 1/2" forward of ideal. Last edited by dream66; 12-17-2020 at 05:54 PM. |

I hope you used some backing plates and plan to use better bolts...

Yes, of course - Backing plates and grade 8 hardware. As typical with aftermarket parts ya hafta dance with whut they brungya during the mock up phase.
Your inquiry did arouse my curiosity though. So I looked up the tensile strength of a grade 5 - 7/16 bolt. Last edited by dream66; 12-17-2020 at 09:27 PM. |

DOT regs require 7/16-UNF, or 1/2"-UNC, grade 8.

No, I don't.
I can take some pics and post them later but do you want to see ....the the bolt? ... the mount with cover? ....the relative position of the mounting hole? ...the dimensions? |

I'd like to see the upper mount as well. I've been thinking about doing this for a long time.

Re: Seat Belts 3-point on a 64
One thing to think about and I don't know if it has been addressed , is the fact that our trucks suffer from a few "defects " that make them poor crash worthy trucks .. Besides not having a padded dash , or a steeringwheel that will absorb impact , I think my second improvement after seat belts would be an energy absorbing column and a collapsable steering shaft ..seems to me I have seen too many pictures of the steering shaft becoming 2 feet longer and hitting the driver right in the face in a serious crash ..Just my .02$ worth ...

Re: Seat Belts 3-point on a 64
This is my brother's truck and we had a big laugh when my sis-in-law asked if the restoration costs included a crash dummy suit.
Interesting tidbit: One of my hot-rod buddies restored a 55 chevy that presumably had over 250,000 miles on it with no signs of ever having been in an accident. Then a couple months after restoration he was leaving a drinking establishment and hit a parked car while traveling no faster than 15 mph. We almost had to replace the frame; the front horns were so badly twisted. The sad truth is that we're deluding ourselves in these classics when we add seat belts. Shoulder harnesses with a cage on a race car however sure saved a friend of mine when he lost control of his Anglia at 115 mph. Only his pride was injured. |

I'll keep the delusion going for me. I'm putting seat belts in mine.
