What the deal with top of the dash mounted clocks

Hello
I want to get a dash mounted clock for my 65 C10. I noticed there are a couple for sale on eBay not for cheap. They all have one thing in common either they don’t work or missing parts like mounting bracket harness etc. Why are they so dam expensive. Why would you buy a 600 dollar clock that doesn’t work are they that RARE? That you can ask and ungodly amount of money for your clock that broken?
I’m curious if someone can explain to me.
Thanks
Pete

It's a thing, you can any amount of money for anything.
Some people will pay it. If you don't want it, don't pay for it.
Where's the easy button?

Re: What the deal with top of the dash mounted clocks

Thats the going price for these clocks that are original . Very few trucks ever had them and they were also used on every model Chevrolet except Corvette. This made them in demand , especially to the guys who wanted a Tach added to their cars in place of the indash clock , thus moving the clock to the top of the dash on some models . Ausleys Chevelle sells a Chinese knock off if you want cheap. Theres also a nice used working one on ebay under 600.00

I have had a couple NOS ones, that sold for 600.00 each. Glad to sell them when I did as they repop them now. I don't like them, from the factory they didn't paint them fawn and they look out of place.

Always wanted one for mine to fill in the other blank space in the bezel but could never justify the price.

I can justify the price of my dash mounted clock...it was free to me. I received it as a gift about 4 months ago. Once I finish cleaning up my dash I will install it. It does work and I love the look of it.

That reminds me. In a thread a while back you were looking for a radio to modify for Bluetooth etc... I have one that the string for the dial broke on but is otherwise in pretty good shape, just needs some cleaning. Anyway, not selling but offering it up if you want it. Just cost actual shipping from North carolina so probably not much. Just let me know. If you decide you don't want it, I'll put on the pay it forward thread.

Friends like that are hard to come by and are surely appreciated not because I got a free clock, but they are truly an awesome individual and one of my best friends.

Re: What the deal with top of the dash mounted clocks

Hello
I found a clock that was on a 4 door Nova. I bought it from a guy I use to Corvette parts from. It has been sitting on his shelf for a few years. I didn’t get it for a “steal”. But it was much cheaper than stuff on eBay. Of course it hasn’t been tested bought “ as is” I like to say this is where my journey ends with the old clock. But, I think it’s just beginning.

Congrats...welcome to the club! Those old clocks are fairly easy to get working IME. I have repaired two in dash Nova (I think) clocks...both times a wire had come unsoldered. I bought them fairly cheaply as is and got them working...good luck!
