Window felt change

I am about to install the stock window felts (fuzzies) on my 66. Seems everyone has an issue installing these. Are there alternatives to the stock pushin style? Search of the forum I found some that screw in. I am surprised no one has come up with a peel and stick variant. It would be nice to install something that was less cuss worthy that did the job.

I had a very difficult time getting my new window felts i.n until I saw a video on youtube by (I think) Brothers and they had a neat trick which made things much simpler. They said the little slots that thei felts clip into will close up a bit over time making it next to impossible to clip the new felt in. Using a straight blade screwdriver they bent the slot out just a tad. I did that and it worked great. That was on my second set of window felts though.

I dreaded it, but I read many posts on hear and it wasn't so bad. I made sure the lip they attach to was bent outward at the bottom (that was the key). I used a small crescent wrench to do that with the glass out first. Installed the glass, the vents, the run channel and then the fuzzies. Worked out okay for me.
Make sure you have you window stop rubber in at the lower stop before the glass goes in. Looks like a round rubber button. The glass will travel all the way up and hestitate at the top when it's new, just pull a little at the top and it closes completely.

I attempted counterpart automotive fuzzies first using the clips. I didn't like them and sensed they may end up being an issue down the line. Then, based on the invaluable information from this forum, I purchased fuzzies from repops. MUCH better quality than counterpart automotive.

I did eliminate the repops clips because they held the fuzzie down too far and when rolling up the window, the glass channel hit the fuzzie and actually bowed the sheet metal of the door. Ever so slight - still not acceptable.

Prior to actually installing, I marked and trimmed the fuzzie to length. I did not allow the fuzzie to tuck under the windlace but rather snugly touch the windlace. I trimmed the fuzzie with an cut off angle grinder.

I ended up using qty 5 #4 black flat head screws on each fuzzie. I used a 6" 3/32 drill bit and used protective tape on the doors. It allowed the stainless strip to sit on top of the edge of the door as it should.

I purposely left the rubber door stop out until I had the fuzzies installed (clearance when drilling because the window rolled down further) and then used dawn soap to install the stops. The rubber stops went right in with the soap.

I just accomplished this process last week. Ask me a year from now - forget it!

What rubber stops are you talking about? I followed the steps in the Brothers Trucks video and ended up snapping the tabs off one strip because there is absolutely no way to get the second strip in with the window in place. Other vehicles I've worked on have a stop on the regulator or in the door that can be adjusted to drop the glass down lower and set after you are done. To me it looks like there is a welded in stop inside the door that has no adjustment.

I'm assuming that the easiest way to do this is to put the glass in the bottom of the door then put the fuzzy strips in then reassemble the rest of the door. The video had them go in last which was forcing me to put way too much pressure on the glass to get the strip between the glass and door. So I'm thinking they have to go in first, not last.

That welded in stop in the door below the glass, it has a hole in it for a rubber bumper (stop). I showed it in the assembly manual in one of these threads (page 361, item #4). Let me see if I can find the scan. Where to purchase - https://www.steelerubber.com/multi-p...per-33-0459-42

I don't know if these will work on the 60-66 trucks. I just purchased these from the reviews i've read these are the ticket. They glue on come with a little scuff pad and glue. I'm a long way from installing on my 70 yet but look very good quality. Fat fender garage sells them they don't list them for the 60-66. They may not work just throwing it out here.

Nice. I had a 70 and like your picture. The felt kind of wipes the glass where as the 66 are fuzzy. Might still work.
