Headliner

Well damn, if you want a black headliner, good luck getting one. I have tried to find one and nothing is available at this time!! NOTHING they are looking into Aug. before they are available.

So with that wonderful news, what the hell is stopping us from making our own? Anyone done this? Hard board with tight foam, glue and some Vinyl?

Here is mine. Cloth sown onto heat shield and then sticky back velcroed to the ceiling. The only reason I even bothered is because I wanted heat shield.

Thanks. I wish I could take credit but the upholstery guy did it. So I don't know exactly what king of heat insulation he used. From the outside it looked like aluminum foil but I think it had some type of fibrous material inside it. I don't think it is the bubble wrap type stuff with the foil outside. It really helps cut down on the heat radiating ceiling from the ceiling. The original sticky backed velcro came off of the ceiling in the heat so I had to get something stronger.

Yea, i guess that my velcro stays put because the backer board I got from Lowes is super lightweight and so is the fabric. I did try it again on my other truck and chose a heavyweight fabric and the velcro failed me too.

I was thinking like using 1/8" ABS plastic? apply sound deadener to roof, then sew fabric/vinyl to foam then spray glue that to ABS then use screws to attach? thoughts?

Sounds fine, I do kind of wish I applied some deadener to the roof but not enough to pull it down and re-do it. Screws for me were a no-go because I didn't want holes since my stuff is still rather stock.

I think this subject has come up before. It seems to me if one were to construct a panel from lightweight materials, and then rivet a number of rare earth magnets on the back, then no glue or screws would needed. I have used this sort of non-invasive approach many times for temporary display installations, and you would be surprised how well the magnets hold.

I was thinking of doing that but I decided on the stronger Velcro instead. You can get them at most hardware stores. I was concerned that they might interfere with my cell signal or radio or maybe just pull my ball cap off my head

Hmmm. I never even considered interference. That's worth investigating.

Now that is a good idea! Never thought about that one. Now I am intrigued to find out if interference could be an issue. I have a bunch of electrical engineers around me, so i will find out what they think.

Finished up the headliner this weekend and I have to say I'm extremely pleased with how well it came out considering it was less than $50! MAJOR thanks and shout out to AcampoDave for the idea!!!

No Sir, I used the velcro stuff "ForestB" recommended and it worked flawlessly. Turned out a helluva lot better than I expected

I'd be mindful of interior heat buildup in summer. Park in the shade when you can. Many adhesives get gooey when temps rise.

The first velcro I tried got gooey in the heat and started to droop. I reinstalled it using the velcro in the previous link I posted and after sitting directly in the California sun it has held up so far. The velcro is sown into the back of the headliner. The original velcro might have held up but I had to take the headliner down and when I did, instead of the velcro separating the velcro came unglued from the sealing. Rather than replacing it we just restuck it to the sealing. I think that caused it to detach later on during the summer.

What did you use for the door panels? Also, did your truck come with armrests or did you add them?

They are the stock panels that the upholster wrapped in white vinyl around the edges and cloth in the center. The armrests are the aftermarket ones that they sell in most catalogs online. He covered the top in the same cloth and the bottom in the same white vinyl. I think he just used spray glue to hold it all together.
