knock sensor & timing cover
I am working on my 383 stroker...just changed the timing chain...any tips for getting the timing cover back on (it is an 85 blazer).
Also, I am putting fuel injection on it...where should I put the knock sensor? |

Putting the timing cover back on is very simple, no sweat. As for the knock sensor, I would put it where ever it came stock. What kind of FI?

I don't think 85's had one stock...of course, this isn't the original block either...I am using the FIRST TPI fuel injection and an Electromotive computer.

Sometimes, or rather, most of the time, it's real hard to get the cover back on without dropping the oil pan. It can be done, but 90% of the time, it will leak. The problem stems from the bottom seal not going under the pan lip to make a continuous gasket around the pan and cover. You will have to cut the little tabs off and then use some sealer. Then it's a hope it don't leak thing.
For the knock sensor, yes, 85's came with them. As a matter of fact all the LE9 equipped trucks came with them. They are in the passenger side, front block drain hole. Yes, they go into water as they take the place of the drain plug normally in there.

I ment put it where the stock knock sensor on whatever FI system your using went So put it where the knock sensor on a TPI motor would go.

this engine never was fuel injected...nor was the truck...I pulled the 305 out years ago and put in this 383...now I am fuel injecting it.

The motor dosen't matter. All small block chevy's are externally identical and internally almost identical. The knock sensor location for ANY small block chevy TPI motor will work. So if a TPI corvette had the knock sensor where swervin said all Le9's had em, then thats a great place to put yours too

right above the oil pan rail, on the pass side there is a plug. It should have a 9/16 hex head on it. That is the plug that should come out to put the knock sensor .

The knock sensor must screw into the side of the block. This is the way it detects any spark knock, through the cylinder walls. I don't have any idea in which hole it would be on a stock TPI engine, but you only have 4 block drain holes, 2 on each side. The only limitation would be wire routing, if you are using the stock wiring.
