Polished my ceramic coated headers

I bought a set of Hooker ceramic coated headers about two years ago. They have just been bolted up never ran and we’re appearing to rust under the coating. I found a product called Cerama Glow to try . It works great! I applied it like the directions said and it took almost all of the rust off them. Pictures don’t do it justice. If you have ceramic headers that need some love I highly recommend this polish. Just FYI

i dont run headers but i thought the point of ceramic coating at least in part was for rust proofing them

After polishing on them I don’t think it really was rust. Most of it came off and there was no pitting or staining left behind. I’m not sure what the discoloration was. Maybe they were mildewing from me taking to long to build this truck. lol 🤷

Yeah, you'd think. However, I have seen at least a couple sets where "rust pimples" started peeking through after just a year or so. That's especially true if the vehicle isn't garage kept.

I had one set that I finally sandblasted and painted with VHT high-temp black paint. It held up almost as long as the ceramic coating! And when rust started peaking through, the black paint somewhat camouflaged the rust!

I'm shocked what happened to my coated headers ( hedman ). The engine was hot when I went to work on the brakes so I put down an old jacket under the master cylinder to prevent fluid hitting shiny stuff. The inner liner of the jacket landed on the #1 header tube and quickly melted onto it. This stuff was probably your standard nylon/cotton type weave and it melted to a black glob of $hit all over the tube. I immediately tried wiping it off but nope.

A few days later after brake work done and several hot cold cycles I open the hood and see the black gob completely gone and in its place a white powdery residue that just wiped right off!

So my dumb-@ss mistake turned out well...
