Longbed stepside

Saw a old post on here about opinions on longbed stepside trucks and from what I gather they are uncommon but fairly undesirable. I've learned enough here to know this guy is asking to much for this one but I'd still like hear if opinions have changed. Its worthy to note that whenever I do a Google image search on longbed stepsides that not one comes up that's tricked out or lowered. They are all similar to the image I've uploaded showing ones near stock, worn out and generally uncared for.

Re: Longbed stepside

From the picture it looks rust free... As far a Longbed Stepper- its what you think/like is what counts. I have a Longbed vs a Shortbed. Some folks dont like longbeds. That is ok with me. I like it and thats what counts. So ...buy what you like. Good luck

Re: Longbed stepside

My opinion has not changed: Longsteps Forever!

A (long)step further: no lowered or "tricked out" trucks need apply. I prefer near-stock. I would never assume that a near-stock truck is uncared for: rather the opposite.

No truck is worth one dollar more than what someone will pay for it, and there is no way to determine from one pic although I don't think ANY truck is worth $8500.

Re: Longbed stepside

Long bed fleetsides look better i always thought long stepwise looked out of proportion and is why my long step side box has been off my truck 30 some years or so

Re: Longbed stepside

I personally wouldn't want a short bed, especially if it were a step side, which I also prefer. I'm not complaining about my free-to-me fleet side 3/4T. It's a matter of how much work I'd have to do to most of what I see out there, both in terms of what is being asked as a price and no land to put it on to do the work (of which, I want to do very little- I'm getting too old for that). One day the right combination will appear (as if by magic, as I'm not really even spending time looking- I really don't need another vehicle).

Re: Longbed stepside

Seems that most people have their preferences. Blonds vs Brunettes Slim/fit/petite vs Curvy/volumptious.

Having said that, it seems that most prefer short bedsides as by the amount of hacked up long beds. Same goes true that it seems most prefer the fleet-side over the step-side.

I, at one time, would have turned my nose up at a long bed-step side but now I think they are pretty cool and unique and appreciate them for what they are.

I think that is the great thing about this hobby as there is something for everybody. If we all liked the same things, it would be kind of boring.

I have owned two long steppers and I like them. They are unique and getting harder to find in good shape.

Re: Longbed stepside

I've watched opinions on long Stepsides change over time. I don't know how old that thread you read was, but when I first came here the opinion on them was generally low. They were being called the redheaded stepchild. But I always defended them and even showed some mighty slick looking ones in pictures. Many heads have turned around on the long step opinion and I've seen many get excited over them. I think they are most popular now as 4wds

Learn something everyday, I didn't even know about a Long Bed Stepside! I would surely take one of those, they are cool looking IMO.

Re: Longbed stepside

I like lowered fleetside SWBs as much as the next guy but I think anything rare, unique, or unusual is cool as hell.

I am looking for a long step box for my 68 C20, I think they are particularly nice looking on a 3/4 ton.

I'm a short step fan but a long step is unique and thus desirable.

That posted truck appears to be missing the tailgate which could cost as much as $1K to source. It looks 'OK' but it probably has the usual 50 YO damage so the asking price is a bit 'rich'.

I believe the tailgate is just down in that photo. The real bummer for me is the roof has leaked and rotted the interior area above the windshield. I've seen the pain in the posterior it is to remove the outer roof section and cut and replace the structure above the windshield. This guy lowered the price to $8000 but hes got a long way to go with that price.

Re: Longbed stepside

Just a thought,if you found a long stepper, would it be that hard to make a short bed out of it,just a thinking out loud,it appears it would be easier to do that than shorten a fleetside?

Had I not come across the '68's I now have, I'd be working on this one
I ended up selling it ('69 C20) to my brother (here in NY).
Another Nevada truck, so completely rust free. A friend in Vegas owned it for a number of years, and it's believed it was a service truck at McCarren.

Re: Longbed stepside

I've been a short step fan since I was a teenager and had my 70 stepper. Back then I'd have turned my nose up at a long step but not anymore. With age they have grown on me and I even tried to strike a deal on one about a year and a half ago. Guy had two trucks he wanted to sell together and I didn't want or have room for both.

There was a long step 4x4 on here in the Craigslist thread about a year ago that I was salivating over. It was perfect to my eyes.
