55.2-59 Welding in Floor Trans Cover

Curious how many have welded in the bolt on trans cover to the floor. At the very least I'd like to seal the perimeter but when I started thinking about it and all of my other projects (that didn't have a removable trans cover) I can't think of a time that I said, "sure be nice if the trans cover was removable". Also makes it more difficult to apply deadner/insulation if its removable. Just thought I'd ask and see what others have done. -Bob

I did not weld mine but I did put a massive amount of sealer adhesive around the seam then screwed it down with stock screws. Its not going anywhere for a while but I figured if I ever needed to get it out i could but it would take a little effort. Saved on welding time and the permanent nature of welding if I did need to get it out. the clued down the deadener and carpet etc.

i welded the f*** out of truk trans cover
also modified it for the 700r4 with some floor i had cut out for a patch panel

i use seam sealer and weld or screw them in permanently. same with the battery cover in the 41-49s. less to leak and less to rattle.

If you have a compound 4 speed or maybe a T-5 or AX15 it would be prudent to keep it held in with the screws rather than weld it in because of the tower but with an automatic, 3 speed or 4 speed with removable Hurst type shifter it shouldn't be an issue. I've had the 3 speed out of my 48 who knows how many times over the years and never removed the cover.

The AX-15 I am putting in mine has a bit of a shift tower like the S-10 T-5 so I will probably put the one back in mine with screws.

I started installing a T5 this weekend. I liked being able to take the cover out to cut the opening. I doubt I’ll ever open it back up in my lifetime FWIW.
