Name change time?
Hey guys, it’s been awhile. Thought I’d drop a line.
After sitting in the garage for the past 7 years, I had to lay the 72 C30 longhorn to rest. Lost it to a house fire on June 28. And as a lesson learned, guys, make sure you have some insurance on these things. Just because it’s off the road and in the garage, don’t assume that your home owners is going to cover it. Strangely though, they’ll cover anything still in boxes and not bolted on it. 🤔 Already, found the replacement. Didn’t really want another project, so I’m headed down towards Bills this afternoon to bring another C30 back home from the Lynchburg area. Hopefully, I’ll be a lil more active again. Sorry about the two upside down pics. Not too sure how to turn them. |

Re: Name change time?
No, everyone got out, including the pets. They’re verbally blaming it on a faulty garage door opener, but since they can’t be certain......

Hey Bill! I was just talking about you last week to a guy between your old place and Luray. I was wondering where you made it off to. I see you moved a lil further down south.

Most of those lost parts were from you, dude. Are you set up, wheeling and dealing again?

Re: Name change time?
Thanks, Rods! There’s a freshly painted 72 super Cheyenne C30 longhorn buried in that bottom picture if you look close enough. I was just getting ready to put the highlander cover, that I got from Matty, on a bench seat for it.

Re: Name change time?
I’ve got the bug. This’ll be my 6th one. 3rd owner, all original, nicely optioned for a c30 dump. I though I’d bite my tongue off when I saw it had extreme hooks under it.

Man I’m so sorry to see this. I’m glad everyone made it out. Your new truck looks awesome!
My 57 too has a ton of sheet metal in it from Bill, I was sad to see him move south but I definitely get it. The northern half of Virginia has changed so much in the last 20-30 years. I left about 8 years ago but still make it back once a year to see family.

Re: Name change time?
I’m just going to put the original houndstooth seat cover back in it and drive it. Probably paint the bedsides fence paint black, unless I can find some nice stake body sides and do the era pinstripping on them. Maybe an under dash ac later. I love the originality of it. You don’t see many trimmed out c30’s. It’s pretty solid.
4:57 rear doesn’t excite me much though. Maybe an overdrive box later. |

Re: Name change time?
That’s a bit of a hike from Culpepper. I lived in far western Loudoun about 5 minutes from Harpers Ferry. My dad still lives near Harper Ferry. He drives to Dulles daily but is lucky to head to work before rush hour and home before rush hour. I don’t miss the traffic one bit. I was born in Leesburg and raised in Clarke and Loudoun counties until I was about 25 when I left.

Re: Name change time?
Man, I'm very sorry to see all of this. At least you all got out alright. House fires are devastating. We actually just purchased some new fire alarms and heat detectors for our house. I have been very nervous in this house because the 2nd floor is so high up. No way you're jumping out of a window if the main level is burning. We had a very close call a couple of months ago and we couldn't wait any longer to at least get alarms. My wife's sister lost her house to fire about 3 to 4 years ago. They weren't home and lost some pets and everything there. It's a bad deal and playing the insurance game is not fun. I wish you luck on all that!
Your Longhorn was a dream truck for me. I've been searching for a 72 Cheyenne Super 30 fully loaded to snatch up. I have one in my garage but sadly the guy won't sell it. Your replacement is very nice!

Re: Name change time?
That is heart wrenching. I'd be devastated if my longhorn went that way. Same thing, mine is in the garage under construction. Been working on it for 9 years now. Mine is a 68 with the 396 (now 454) AC, PS, PB, buddy buckets. Haven't started it in about 3 years now. Got the interior left to complete, probably have 20k into it. That flat bed is really nice

Re: Name change time?
Thanks, guys. Yeah, it’s been an experience. Insurance company had been good so far. They’ve rented me a 40 trailer to stay on the property until the house is rebuilt and covered all the cost to set it up (temp power service, permits, etc) Losing the longhorn was tough. I think the only things I have left is some powder coated rims i bought years ago from special k that were in a storage trailer. Won’t be needing those with the dually... lol. I had that truck since 1999.
I almost forgot what it was like to drive one of these. Took the new dually into town today to do an errand or two and I had two offers to buy it and turn a dollar. It’s not going anywhere |

A body shop near me burn to the ground the other day. I haven't been able to see inside to see how many cars were lost.

Re: Name change time?
So glad everyone was safe, but a gut wrenching loss for sure.
Im reminded of a situation that happened here in Socal during a wildfire that torched many homes, but at least one classic car had a happier ending. I wish I could find the photo I’m thinking of, but google images skunked me… Anyhow, it was a wildfire, not a spontaneous in home fire, everyone was packing and fleeing the neighborhood. The aftermath showed most of the homes in a cul de sac were burned to the ground. At the bottom of the driveway, at one of the destroyed homes, out in the street was an intact classic car (can’t recall what vehicle it was exactly). It stood in stark relief of the charred destruction which surrounded it. I guess there were fewer drivers available than cars (or probably no motor in it) but they had the forethought and wherewithal to get it out of the garage, off the driveway, and into the street of the cul de sac. A small consolation for someone whose house had burned to the ground. More than most get in that circumstance. Congrats on finding a worthy replacement…very cool rig that is!

Man, that is awful to see. It sounds like you are doing well with it, all things considered. Your new rig looks really nice.
