Gas tank removal surprises
Passenger side cab corner. What's this springy thing for?
Removed the seat, found this. Never seen one before. Factory cardboard sound deadner? It's upside down in this pic. Build sheet. Is there an easy way to remove it w/o tearing it all up? Im thinking no since I tore the one corner just touching it. Seat tag. Original tank? Thanks much, don t. |

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
You might be able to remove the build sheet by wetting it with water or maybe windex. Might try a corner doing this, also.
Depends on the glue. the moisture may release the glue to enable it to be removed... |

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
I'd like to see a pic of the 3/4 ton CST truck with a big block, dana 60 rear with a lot of goodies. Cardboard was an insulator for noise and to keep the springs of the seat off the metal tank (I believe)

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
Take the highest resolution photos you can of the build sheet before any attempts to remove it...just in case. Take several with different lighting, in fact.

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
I don't think I would wet the build sheet at any point.
I would do the following: 1) Take more pics in the current condition 2) I would get some extra hands and try to create space between the foam and the metal bars and try to slide it to the edge of the seat. The bars pressing into the sheet is usually the weakest area and most likely to tear. If you are able to remove it, I had one of my (partial) build sheets laminated. FWIW, at least in my case, the heat from the laminating machine did not damage the build sheet, and it turned out really nice. Maybe make some copies before laminating too. Speaking of build sheets, do you mind if I (or maybe you want to?) post your build sheet to this thread? |

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
I think I will leave the build sheet where it's at. I've got pics, good enough for me.

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
The Buick dealership on the paper is unfortunately no longer around. Not sure exactly when they closed doors, I think it was mid 2000's. I had a friend that bought a 84 GMC 1/2 ton from that dealership. Actually my 70 came from the chevy dealership just up the street from the Buick dealership. My folks bought it new in 70

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
Glad to help the board with that project, I suck pretty bad right now and am a good bit behind but I’ll get it caught up soon. Just so you know that paint combo on your truck is really uncommon. I don’t think ive seen an actual truck in that scheme before. All of the conventional two tone (factory two tones not using white) trucks are far less common and really freaking awesome in my opinion. I guess I’m biased as my truck was a medium olive over dark olive conventional two tone when new, and will be again one day. Your truck really is an awesome one, nicely optioned and in great shape.

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
That's a clean build sheet, says something for the truck, IMO. I seem to recall one of those tags attached to my seat as well. I wonder what it means?

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
I was able to remove mine by undoing a few of the seat upholstery rings and very carefully pushing the cushion forward to work it out inch by inch. It's hanging in the office now and is pretty cool to look at.

Re: Gas tank removal surprises
That is interesting that it has the mounting brackets for three different side mirrors on this truck. I guess the previous owner couldn't make up his mind?
I believe this came stock with the dumbo ears since its a Custom Camper, which the brackets are still there but were converted to West Coast mirrors.
