Rebuilding your stock air con
I know FAA Benny ( Pretty sure that's his board name without looking it up ) rebuilds these, but Im curious who has tackled it themselves. Is it something you are glad you did, or is it something you would farm out next time.
Ive looked at Benny's vids and Im thinking its a doable process. No idea if parts are available right now though. Probably a ton of threads just like this, but hey here is possibly an updated one.

Re: Rebuilding your stock air con
You must be talking about the evaporator and blower housing under the hood, that is what FAA Benny will restore for you. I sent mine to Original Air because I was buying the other stuff under the hood from them. If I had to do it again, I would send that piece to FAA Benny or do it myself. Here is my thread where I show pictures and share my experience. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=790246
Bottom line is the evaporator housing can be taken apart and restored, remove a few rivets, clean and patch things up, and use screws to put it back together. |

Re: Rebuilding your stock air con
I am in the process of installing a factory AC setup into my non AC truck. I will only be substituting two major components instead of using stock parts: I am using a parallel flow condenser from a 1997-ish chevy truck, and am using a Sanden compressor. I am getting all of my parts from a guys junkyard, and some other parts from a local public junkyard. Compressor is new from rockauto. FOUR SEASONS 58551 (i believe it's for a 1986 Jeep Cherokee)
The underdash and firewall boxes and components are factory. I'll be recalibrating my POA here this weekend possibly. And I should have pictures and results in a couple weeks because I'm slow as hell and don't actually know what I'm doing. Last edited by jumpsoffrock; 09-04-2021 at 01:43 AM. |

I am going to do the same thing. Did you weld in a new firewall piece?

This cab I'm using is trash and I'll be replacing it hopefully later this year, a local guy has a few to choose from. On the new cab, I'll be taking a factory piece of sheetmetal that I have and graft it in to look exactly as factory. The cab I will most likely buy is a non AC cab. The other cabs are a bit too expensive but who knows. |

Re: Rebuilding your stock air con
I have cosmetically restored several AC units. Holler if you have specific questions
