epoxy primer question-

i know there is a paint forum but looks like not much action there. so i will post here. working on 87 gmc R10
sanded with 80- little body work in 2 spots. now i want to shoot epoxy primer over the truck and then maybe a 2k. followed by epoxy as sealer once i figure out how to mix that.
dont have money for paint any time soon. so will stay in epoxy until that day comes.
read eastwood is not good epoxy. i was thinking of getting the SPI brand epoxy. but thats almost 300 bucks for primer cleaner and activator or whatever its called.

anyone have suggestions for a good epoxy?

kid at wifes job cut out the rot on bed. and decided to shoot the bed in high build black primer. told me 600 and ready for paint. which was wrong- could see too much markings under the high build. so right now 180 and not shiny black

Well..paint products just keep getting higher and higher..
Not what you want to hear..but SPI is probably the best choice..
I've used Nason from oreillys but not overly impressed with it

I use SPI epoxy and really like it.
they also have a forum on there website and are on FB if you need advice. and there customer service is top notch.

The problem is that any primer is not uv resistant. You will have to use something as a top coat. I would save my money untill you have the funds to paint.

I thought some have UV protection- either way- truck will sit in garage with a cruise here and there. Also thought I read there is a way to reduce to use it as a sealer - which I thought would hold me over until spring

Can I just leave my vehicle in epoxy?
Yes, and many people do. Just know it if it’s not garaged, it will need to be scuff and re-coated every 2-5 years.

SPI black epoxy does indeed have uv protection in it. Keep in mind you get two gallons with epoxy for the cost. Highly recommend it along with their forum, guys there are top notch pro's. I've sprayed about 6-7 gallons on damn near everything from entry doors, flatbeds, desks, file cabinets to typical auto sheet metal and have been pleased with results.

Ive used Kirker epoxy and really like how it sprays.

You can get Kirker really cheap for their BC/CC as well as long as you stick with basic colors.

Kirker the same as Eastwood??? Read it’s the same labeled different???
Was thinking of Spi as I’ve read a lot of good reads on it- but 300 bucks for first coat- yea I’m cheap. Don’t have big ol pockets - so
Thought about trying the Eastwood stuff. But been weeks and still debating on what to do- getting colder in jersey- so not sure how long I have
