how to remove steering arm?

I have a '70 k10 with a dana 44 and a 4in lift. i had another front end that had a raised steering arm. i didn't know about the cone shaped things on the bolts. i couldn't get the arm off this front end, i ended up using a torch to heat it up and break it loose. now i have the raised arm but i need to get the stock one off my truck. i don't want to take a torch near my brake lines and all that stuff. What is the correct way to remove a steering arm?

thanks

Get a sledge hammer and beat the steering arm until you see that its moved a little bit. Then take a small standard screwdriver and stick it in the slot on the tapered washers and "unscrew" them. Thats how I do at at work.
