Window run channel options
I have the Precision brand window channel seals and they leak really bad. My truck is pretty quiet with the exception of the noise I get around the windows.
Are there any better options than the Precision brand? In the photos they all look like the same corrugated/ cloth covered parts.

Re: Window run channel options
I am going to try steele on my next truck, lmc changed suppliers and its garbage now.
https://www.steelerubber.com/side-wi...kit-90-3288-90 thats the one piece, which it looks like what your truck has. if you have the wing window doors they make taht too. i used to use precision windshield gaskets and switched to steele, its night and day quality difference. no more puckers, I even broke a couple windshields using harder gaskets. I can install a windshield in 20 minutes by myself with a steele gasket. never going back!

Re: Window run channel options
I used Steel gaskets when I had all the glass in my '49 replaced. The installer had never used them and was very impressed. That was 3 years ago and so far no leaks, cracks or puckers. I would highly recommend them.

Re: Window run channel options
Wind noise is the one thing that keeps me from driving my truck long distances. I will order the Steele parts and see if there is any improvement.
Unfortunately it will be a few months before I can put them in and drive my truck. I will try to updated this once I get them in.

I'm wondering if Russ or anyone else has an alternative for using rivets for holding the vent window vertical channel in place? Wondering about the rivet/pivot for the vent window also. I have read some opinions on installing these rivets and it seems they can be difficult. I believe one person cut the vent window rubber, on the inside, at the bottom pivot thus eliminating the need to remove the vent window. Anyway just curious about tips and tricks for the installing of the two kits mentioned, thanks. |

Re: Window run channel options
I cut the rubber for the vent window too.
Yes, there is a seam at the bottom, but it saves a lot of grief removing the vent window from the frame.

Re: Window run channel options
I haven't rebuilt any wing windows yet. I will be doing it soon on my 64 suburban.
You may want to watch this video, typically this guy does a good job of explaining the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiZOiHmcb_w
