1968 Blazer Build

I know, I know, there weren’t any blazers built in 1968 but this is my 1972 dressed up like a ‘68. My goal with this build is to make a blazer that looks like it was built in 1968 with all of the modern upgrades. It will have a 2012 6.0 LY6 with a 6l90 trans with the original np205 with a twin stick kit. Front and rear axles will be stock with Yukon 3:73 gears and a locker in the rear. A family roll bar and a rhino lined bed floor with high quality paint everywhere else. This truck will be an above average driver but not too nice to drive. I will undercoat the bottom side of everything. Here are some photos of the starting point.

I used a dirty ding engine cross member and modified the stock transmission cross member and transfer case mount. The motor sits close the firewall nicely. Doors got blasted and primed.

Very little work needed on the doors just fixed some stress cracks on the hing side and straighten the drivers door from an accident. I lost several photos of test fitting and progress on the motor.

Looks like you are starting with a GMC Jimmy? Are you keeping it a Jimmy or using the chevy front end? Good luck with the build, Rg

Full disclosure I’m much further along than this thread, I just haven’t had time to post appropriately. I used the firewall back floor and one bedside from the jimmy. I also had a second truck-Chevrolet blazer I used the frame and other sheet metal from. All of this combined with some aftermarket parts I built one truck. The front floor on the Jimmy is much worse than it looks in the photos. I used a complete front floor pan and bedside to make it work. Hopefully in the next few days I will get some more posting done. It will be a Chevrolet front, hopefully I didn’t disappoint!

No disapproval from me! I think people should do what they want with their trucks. I have a gmc jimmy that will probably end up with the 68 chevy front end, it's such a classic design.

Had the frame body and axles blasted. Got the frame in prime and then shot it black. Also blasted all of the suspension and painted it. I put it back together with all polyurethane bushings. I had a hard time getting a complete kit for the truck so I bought two different ones that contained the parts I needed and made it work. I had a buddy of mine build a stainless steel tank with the same top shape with a plate that has the original style fill neck but will accept a late model fuel pump. I used the fuel pump from my 2012 donor truck. I did this same concept on my green 70 C10 SWB and it has worked well for about five years.

Sandblasted the body and did some clean up in the firewall. It’s not completely smooth but it is cleaned up in several areas. I don’t have many photos of the floor or quarter replacement but it happened. I was able to use the torque boxes with a little patch work.

It’s back a few inches. I ended up going with a twin stick kit from JB Fabrication to make it work. The original shifter would have been to far back to work properly with a center console.

Motor sitting in for the final time. I used the Dirty Dingo cross member and mounts. This put the motor against the firewall nicely with just enough room for comfort. The custom stainless steel fuel cell is mounted and holds about 28 gallons. I used a plate that allows you to use a stock fuel pump from a Silverado. This is the second build I have done this with and I really like it as it provides enough fuel without issue and in the event I need a replacement they are available everywhere.

The NP 205 with the JB Fabrication twin stick kit and advanced adapters kit on the front. I painted it after I installed it because these things are so heavy I didn’t think I could paint it and then install it without scratching it.
