1969 C 10 fan belt noise
Have a bone stock 307 and a newish belt . Been making noise /slipping at high RPM for a while . Belt's clean but pulley groove has black residue in it . From slipping I guess ? Gonna wire brush the pulley clean and see what happens . Anything else I should do ? Should add that the belt's tight . Thanks !

Make sure whatever devices (water pump, alternator, etc.) turn freely when the belt is off.

Re: 1969 C 10 fan belt noise
Did you get the right belt when you got a new one. The length isn’t the only thing to get correct. The shape is very important so it sits in your pullies right.

Make sure the pulleys are properly aligned.

Re: 1969 C 10 fan belt noise
X2 on belt alignment. Changed mine over to a serpentine system and had all kinds of belt noise when I started it. Checked the belt alignment and it was off by one groove on the ac compressor. Fixed that no noise.

Re: 1969 C 10 fan belt noise
I had horrible squealing noise at 3,000 rpms that didn't change whatever belt I used. It turned out the harmonic balancer was slipping on the broken isolation rubber mounts. A new "old" balancer fixed it.
