Cutting holes in K10 hubcaps.
I have a very nice set of painted 1/2 ton hubcaps (69-72) but I need to cut the holes in two of them for 4x4. Does anyone do this as a service? Are the holes simply cut in the steel or are the inside edges folded over? Thanks, george

Re: Cutting holes in K10 hubcaps.
I would like to hear if anyone has had any success doing this also or if anyone is offering a service to complete this. I haven't heard any positive results from trying to do this especially getting the outer edge folded in like factory. If someone has had decent results it would be great to hear there approach.

Re: Cutting holes in K10 hubcaps.
Any one used a large electrical punch to attempt this? Maybe a large beveling punch tool could be used.
I just happened to be taking pictures of a 4.4 cap this morning. This is an aluminum one. You can see how the lip if folded in. |

I think someone on here does this. You might try posting in the 4x4 forum, LockDoc

I found this thread that looks decent on doing it yourself. Maybe there are others.

I think Frank only does the 3/4 ton caps.

True, so far no one has been successful in getting Frank to make the move to also providing the service for the half ton K10 caps. Thionk there would be a LOT of interest. I know I'd be a player for a pair.

Re: Cutting holes in K10 hubcaps.
They need to be opened up undersized. Not sure if a knockout tool would work or if a hole saw would be better. Then form a rolled edge over a mandrel. The mandrel could be made by rounding the end of the proper size pipe and beveling the end of another. Might want to experiment on a piece of scrap metal first

Re: Cutting holes in K10 hubcaps.
Painted caps should be metal ( magnet test ) the chrome caps are brass, then you have stainless, it all depends on what year the cap is.
