Block stamp?
9v147450
Anybody know how to read this one? 283 or 307 or? 1968 c10 Truck had its heads taken many years ago. The good it sat in a barn. All there. The bad i need a set of heads. And the front window is toast.

Re: Block stamp?
Any other numbers you can add? Are you sure those are the numbers/letters that are stamped on the front RH side pad of the block? Suffix codes that tell you the engine specifics are made up of letters- typically in the following format after 1956.
T02I4IT First letter is the engine plant Next four digits are the build date The last two or three letters are the suffix code

Re: Block stamp?
Well if it has no heads just measure the bore & stroke. No guess work involved.

Re: Block stamp?
Be a few months before any wrenching and measuring.

Re: Block stamp?
I cannot find the Link that states that Remanufactured Engines are assigned a new number sometimes.
This may be the case with this one. With Numbers like that it is a Possibility that it was rebuild by a business-like Grooms (http://crateenginesupply.com/grooms-crate-engines/) or Jasper (https://www.jasperengines.com/)

Re: Block stamp?
Can you see the block casting number on the LH rear by the bellhousing? The Lime Book also has lots of good info in it but nothing that matches those numbers.

Re: Block stamp?
Going to get new cast heads from summit.
It must be a 283 from 67 or 307 from 68. These new heads seem to fit both. Doesnt the 283 and 307 use the same block? |
