Wide wheels for original hub caps
Hello, I hope everyone's staying well. I've started a restoration on my 72 Cheyenne Super and I have the original hub caps that came on the truck and I want to put them back on. I'd love to put 8's or even 10's around the truck. What's the widest rim you can get to accept the original hub caps? Thanks!

Re: Wide wheels for original hub caps
Didn't know if someone made a wider wheel but you could still place the cap toward the outer part of the wheel, like original.

Re: Wide wheels for original hub caps
Which hubcap style do you have? The nub or clip style that attaches to the center of the wheel or the full cover that attaches to the front of the barrel?

As long as the wheel is the same OD @ the wheel lip, full covers should work. The flush mounted cap might look awkward w/a super-wide wheel though vs. a some what recessed poverty/dog-dish cap. It's subjective but something I would notice.

Re: Wide wheels for original hub caps
That style is more commonly known as a " full wheel cover" as it covers the entire wheel and not the center or hub portion . That wheel cover should fit any 15'' steel wheel to the best of my knowledge. For a 1/2 ton truck, Blazer or Suburban you need a 10 1/2'' hub cap, for a 3/4 ton truck or Suburban you will be needing a 12'' hub cap. That providing that you have the newer disc brake style wheels with the 4 hub cap nub for cap attachment. If the older 3 nub style steel wheels they will have 3 nubs for the cap attachment. For drum brakes up front, not discs. If "clip" style wheels you will need a cap with the raised ridge on the back to mount to the clips.
Hope that helps in your search and welcome to the best truck/Blazer/Burb website you could ever hope to find. ALOT of knowledgeable members here than can help in your build and are happy to do so.

Re: Wide wheels for original hub caps
All great information and I certainly appreciate it!
It'll be a while before I need them but I'm planning ahead. My understanding is the full covers will not fit rally wheels. I know its an unconventional idea but i have 15x10's with 275/60's on my 70 C10 and really like the look. I thought I'd keep this 72 factory from the side but still have some meat on them. I have the original wheel covers that came on the truck and they look almost new. |

Re: Wide wheels for original hub caps
Your full wheel covers WILL fit rallye wheels, the dog dish caps will not.

Re: Wide wheels for original hub caps
Thank you. That should make it easier to at least get an 8 inch wheel. Noticed you have an 72 super swb. That's what I'm working on. I wasn't looking for a project like this but it found me lol. Couldn't resist, original invoice, build sheet, protecto plate, original engine and a lot of original parts including seat covers that are in decent shape. The guy before me started a color change and didn't finish so I've got my work cut out for me. I plan on going back mostly original except for the fun stuff. lol ie wheels.
