Non stock seat covers?
Is there a company that makes non stock style covers for our bench seats that would be a direct replacement?
Im thinking something with some style, just not factory. I got a couple of covers from GOM here on the board that were fantastic, but if I remember he's really not doing them anymore. I drive past an upholstery place here in my town now and again. Ill have to pop in and see what they would charge. Heck Im not even sure what is reasonable. Vinyl of some sort with a pattern sewn in. Im afraid they would only do the whole seat not just the cover that I could install myself. All that labor adds up quickly.

Re: Non stock seat covers?
I've used the same upholstery shop for years. They made my covers before repros were available. Now they would recommend using a repro for cost reasons. The ones they made before would be roll & pleated. I think the installation is a very minor part of the cost. Not worth skipping and doing myself. LMC used to sell a generic cover, not trying to be OEM style. They also offered an economy OEM Cheyenne style that is not worth the box they ship it in. Hopefully they gave up on those. I haven't shopped LMC ever since I used one of those inferior covers

Re: Non stock seat covers?
The costs are just going to keep climbing , If your looking for a custom interior using quality materials , it's all made from petroleum products , I just checked and even the hounds tooth material is up to $30.00 a yard , Thread is more expensive , Glue , foam , labor . And don't forget shipping . Upholstery shops aren't set up to media blast and repaint your seat frames so you have to have that done if your looking for that at the most they may clean them up and shoot some spray can black on them , If you've got broken springs that's another issue they don't carry replacements . they have to find them just like you do . If you've got a local upholstery shop try them they also are the guys you should check with on installing your glass . If your taking on the project yourself don't ever throw away the old seat covers/ foam until your completely done . Cost wise today for a custom seat and door panels about $1,000.00 + - .
Upholstery shops are just like body shops that make most of their money replacing bumper covers and shy away from custom paint work an upholstery shop can make more money installing leather seat cover kits for the new car dealers and use less trained workers . Interiors are always the last thing to get done on your project and after you spend thousands and thousands on your driveline and body work and paint Do you really want to finish it off with a $300.00 Chinese generic seat cover ? Just another note Don't wait to have your seat done until your ready to drive it give the shop time to work in your project , Plan ahead so your not sitting and staring at your truck with no seat waiting on the shop to finish your emergency project !

Re: Non stock seat covers?
Look at USA1 Industries. They make nice covers, right here in the US. I got this one from them. Its a Black & White Houndstooth, which is a 67-72 fabric. But they did a 77-80 cover for me. The seat I restored for someone and then shipping it to them.

Quote:
$800 for a fully restored seat, using a good original foam If new foam is used by request, then add $200. Shipping/Handling is $350

Re: Non stock seat covers?
I’m just looking for a parchment vinyl bench cover with a little style vs plain no stitching. I’ve installed several bench covers and a set of buddies now. I have all the tools and I’m fine with prepping and installation.
I have 72 parchment door panels, head liner, and I’ll be using a 72 bench.I just don’t want a factory cover and I don’t want any kind of cloth.

Re: Non stock seat covers?
I just dropped my seat off at a local upholstery shop. Custom cover of vinyl with tweed inserts, 2"-3" pleats in the tweed. They are fixing the foam and repairing any springs. Quoted me $350-400. I don't think that's bad giving $379.95 for a reproduction seat cover that you have to install yourself. Check with a local shop and you'll save yourself some money and have a nice seat.
