1965 c10 wiring
Can someone tell me what the five wires that go on the starter side of the engine go to. There is a purple one going to the start side of the solenoid but the other 4 have been cut. I think maybe two go to the coil but not sure.

Maybe this will help. Looks like green to temp sender, black for the ammeter dogleg, dark blue for oil sender, another one went to the coil, and like you said...purple to starter.

Do you have dash lights or gauges? If lights, then two are temp sender (light and dark green), the white with stripes was the resister wire to the coil, dark blue to oil sender and violet to starter.. If you have an HEI distributor, that may be why they were cut - to eliminate the resistor wire to coil. You can buy the Packard 56 terminals and restore the plug to stock (with or without the resister wire).

I hollowed the metal connectors out of the original plug and passed new wires of original colors thru the opened ports. Then, I just spliced them to the old ones inside the cab. New Packard 56 plugs would be cooler but... oh well.

The metal connectors in a Packard 56 plug can be released by inserting a precision screwdriver into the socket and depressing a release tang on each side. The first pic has the screwdriver pointing at the tang on the female side of the metal connector. Just depress it and pull the wire out. The second pic has the screwdriver pointed at the release on the male side. Push that prong toward the other prong and pull out the wire.

American Autowire sells a kit with both sides of the plastic plug housing along with a selection of male and female Packard 56 terminals. You can get both the 6 pin engine harness plug and the 9 pin main wiring plug for about $15 or $20 each. Makes for a clean install. My original engine harness plug was a little melted near the top ignition wire.
