1977 GMC need info.....

I'm looking at a local GMC 1977 for sale and I'm having trouble decoding the serial number. It's TCL447Z52XXXX Which I believe is a 1977 2wd 350 4bbl 1/2 ton? It has 5 lug wheels. Model # is TC10903. It is loaded and has original 2 tone paint with YE9 Silverado Equipment but it's a GMC with SierraClassic 15 fender emblems. Was "Silverado" terminology used for Chevy and GMC? Am I correct on it being a 1977? Am I correct on the serial number decode? Thanks

Looks like you got it right. This is a Heavy Half (HD Susp). I believe the SPID would call out the Silverado (high end) interior option even the truck is a GMC.

Re: 1977 GMC need info.....

From what I understand, Chevrolet & GMC used the same RPO codes (such as the YE9) to denote the various trim levels, but each used their own names (Silverado for Chevy vs. Sierra Classic for GMC).

As for how it appears on the SPID, I seem to remember reading that the descriptions may have varied by assembly plant. For example, Dad's 77 GMC (built in Flint) has it written as "1YE9 SIERRA CLASSIC EQUIP". But yours (built in Fremont) could be different.

I've also discovered that it is 6050GVWR which makes it a "Heavy Half" CodeF44. This may help me with getting a Ca. smog cert. No Cats or EGR hopefully....
