How much work to modify a 4x4 suburban frame for a LWB truck?
Been looking for a K10/K20 chassis with no luck. Ran across a 68 or so suburban 4x4 frame. I know the wheelbase is the same as a LWB truck, but what all is involved in “converting” it to work as such?

Re: How much work to modify a 4x4 suburban frame for a LWB truck?
My 4x4 in my build thread is a 69 suburban frame. I had to add rear cab mounts to it. Also the front cab mount holes have to be elongated. The front rear spring hanger is different on a suburban , I would guess because it incorporates a body mount that you will have to remove.
Add bed mounts and you will be ok. I sat my cab and bed on it after all that and there are pictures of how it lines up. I did shorten my frame , but that wont affect your project.

Yep, just a matter of body mount differences to change, and you gain a rear tank!

Thanks for the info! Got some pics of the frame in question and unfortunately it’s bent so I won’t be buying it

If you don’t mind traveling; I’d bet Kevin (undertaker72) might have a K LWB frame. He’s a little south of Salt Lake City.

Have you considered buying a later sqarebody K frame and swapping components to a 68-72 2wd frame. I know its a lot of work, but they are fairly interchangable. The appeal of 14 bolt 3/4 ton stuff makes the heavier ones a little harder to find.

I don't know California rules.
Do you need the title of the frame to do a frame swap? In some states, you need both the title of the frame and cab to be legal.

I suggested adding the 4wd components to the org frame as another option .As far as a complete frame swap, it may be an issue in other parts of the country.

I’ve considered that too, DIY4x and other companies also make hangers but it is a lot of work and a lot of money going that route. Easier for me to swap everything over if it just bolts on. I don’t really need 4wd but it will allow me to lift my truck easier/higher with leaf springs. I may just swap out my front spindles for 88-98 4” lift spindles and see where it lands.
