Steering U Joiint

I am installing a 1972 C10 auto column in my truck and want to use the original intermediate shaft without the bell grease coupling that came with the 1972 column. I have pushed the column as close to the dash as I can in order to have gut room. Can I use this : https://www.borgeson.com/Steel-3-4-36-X-3-4DD.html

to couple the lower column to the upper intermediate shaft If I cut down the intermediate shaft to the double D portion indicated by my finger? Thanks,

I imagine it’d work. Maybe buy a super cheapo one to make sure the angle works out ok. Then yeah get the nicest one you can.

Is there any way you can reposition your steering box? You’d have to realign the whole front end after of course but direct drive steering is a plus.

I had the dimensions for the DD shaft somewhere, but as long as the DD is correct size, that universal joint will work. It will also help with any alignment issues from shortening the column.

Looks like 3/4" on the rounded portion. I still haven't collapsed the shaft. Is there a direct bolt up from the 72 lower column (36 spline 3/4) to the factory upper column that I could use with out cutting the upper portion of the intermediate shaft down to the DD section?

Yes it will work, I have done several this way. Get the joint thats nickel plated, it will take the rust out of the issue…..

Just mocked this up with the new rag joint and steering U-Joint, have a question regarding the column to steering u-joint connection. Seems if I use the existing flat spot for the set screw, that the u-joint is not fully inserted onto the column. Should I make a new set point as indicated in red so I get the full depth of the splined connection?

more photos of parts and part numbers that I used. The column is a stock C10 column and intermediate shaft. I cut the shaft down to the double D portion.

What power steering adapter plate did you use?
It looks like the power steering box is angled up too much to the shaft.

Power Steering plate was already installed. Looks like the one everybody is using. The camera angle make it look like it is extreme. It is not, just a few degrees off.

The end of the shaft with the splines should be flush with the inside edge of the u-joint housing. You may need to turn the coupling a little and drill a new set screw nub.

That's probably one from CPP.
Captain Fab's doesn't do that - his keeps everything aligned.
But yes, many use the other brands and don't have issues with that slight angle.
