Hi im trying to establish some sort of authenticity of look in my engine bay on my 65. Could those out there with a 283 share some photos with me of their bays? Looking at how wires are run, accessory mountings. ground strap locations. draft tube, vac lines and fuel lines. Horn relay/junction block set up

Mine. Not 100 percent stock with HEI, dual pot master cyl, heater shut off on water pump, glass bowl fuel filter, blue positive batt cable and a few other details I'm sure, but I try to keep it on the vintage side. Since the pics I added original style heat shields for the plug wires.

Edit: BTW the whole front clip is off the truck right now so if you need a specific picture or close -up, it would be a breeze.

Close up of horn relay/ regulator placement. Also throttle linkage and spark plug heat shields. The regulator pic is from a truck with headlight relays so there are a few extra wires and bolts going thru the core support.

Here's the carb. Mine has a recess in the intake for an automatic choke, but the carb is set up for my cable choke which goes to the little bracket on the top left. The rubber hose from the oil fill tube goes to the bottom of the air cleaner base which has a little spark arrestor screen inside it. The rubber line headed from the base of my carb running toward the distributor goes to a PCV valve which is hidden in the port for the old road draft tube.

Well done, all around! I was a smog mechanic back in the day when the road draft tube had to be eliminated. Yes, I'm old...

Re: Need Pictures of 283 Engine bays

Thanks for the compliments guys. I think my valve covers are older than my motor too. I've noticed that most scripted ones I've seen in sixties Chevys seem to have more of a slope to the front and rear whereas these are more blockish. They didn't come with my engine. My engine had 327 valvecovers from a car when I got it. (Wishful thinking on someone's part I suppose because it's still a 283)

Re: Need Pictures of 283 Engine bays

This picture gives you an idea of how to run the plug wires. If you need a paint code for the engine I do have it on this site somewhere. I had a small patch of paint left on my oil pan when I rebuilt the engine and I did a color match. This is m rebuild thread. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...=795604&page=3 I was going for stock appearance as much as I could. One can see I do have a power brake booster and dual master. I also got rid of the road draft tube and installed a PCV valve along with a 4 barrel carb. The picture of this engine is not mine.

Please do keep us posted. I've been messing around with 283's for a long time and am happy to talk about 'em too.
