67 327 Engine Question
I have a short bed 67 that originally came with a 327 but was gone when I bought the truck and I have been wanting to go back to a stock setup for the most part. I found a 3/4 ton 67 that has its original 327 in it that im sure has been sitting in the elements for years, guy said engine still spins freely. Is the 327 engine that came in the 67 3/4 ton trucks pretty much the same as the 327s in the 1/2 ton trucks?

I believe it should be the same. I once owned a 67 which also came factory with a 327, and it was also long gone when I purchased (approx. 1977), replaced with another 327 (originally from a Corvette). This engine may indeed be ok, but it is worth opening it, replacing seals, timing set, and basically looking everything over. I purchased a 72 with a 402 a while back which had sat for approx. 30 years. I dropped the pan, replaced timing set (plastic teeth had issues and would have failed miserably in a hurry), some gaskets and seals, and it runs wonderfully, but the truck only had 62,000 miles when parked. Someone may correct me, but if memory serves, they only put one 327 version in the pickups. They even had a 2 barrel 327 in some of the heavy trucks such as the C50, but not positive difference there if any.

I believe you are correct. The light duty trucks got a 4 jet 4 barrel carb with manul choke. The carb throttle arm is different for th400 trans and manal. They all got a brass by the thermostat in 67. That is usually a tell tale for original. Here is a picture of one of my original 67 327's.

Check the suffix code, then check www.nastyz.com to decode. The engines will be the same 1/2t to 3/4t, basically and certainly visually. 20 series may have a different suffix# but maybe not. Might be the same. The differences in code usually came from which transmission or carb

In the 67 truck service manual for series 10-60 the 327 came in two horse powers, 185 and 220, torque for the 185 hp is 305 and for the 327 is 320. The motor were built wih more torque for work load usage is my understanding, different for passenger cars and nice Super Sports they built at them times. I also recall that a four barrel carb was standard with a automatic turbo 400. To me it seem like the same motor for all series. The manual does mention the 366 gas engine and 3 other diesel engines 159, 212, 318 but I'm pretty sure the 327 came in the 10-30 series trucks at least.

There won't be any corresponding VIN codes for "numbers matching" stuff on a 67-72 engine, so getting a correct date code for 67 engine will be the way to go. Like special-K said, the suffix code might be different from C10 to C20/30 but shouldn't really matter.

Are you wanting a '67 327 to be year correct or just look year correct? You can put the correct valve covers and intake on a 350 and it will look right (except for accessory holes in the heads). It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

62-67 had small crank journals and used forged cranks, those blocks had a large hole, back of the intake manifold for the road draft tube.
68-69 blocks had larger crank journals and had cast cranks. 67-69 had spin-on oil filters.

67 was the last year for the push on oil cap with vent it went on the oil fill tube.. 68 had the twist type as did the fil tube. It read in stamp around the top of the push cap AC Delco ---Oil or Oil Fill . Aftermarket just say Oil--Oil around the top. Mine also has two alternator brackets double up while my sons 67 283 has one.

FWIW my 67 327 (original engine from my 67 Camaro) had solid VC, oil fill on front of intake (push on cap), draft tube from rear of block (china wall). It was a 2 brl 210 hp 327. No accessory holes on heads

My '67 327 has factory PVC in the fill tube.
![]() Would the lower HP be due to lower compression. It seems pretty common that heavy duty (not race) engines had lower compression ratios

In 66 and 67 you could get optional closed positive crankcase. That put your pcv valve into the oil fill tube and the rear of the intake tube goes into the air cleaner.
