Ball joint sleeve 4x4
How far does the upper ball joint go in on front axle.

It doesn't go in a certain depth. You need to install the knuckle with new balljoints first, torque the bottom ball joint nut to spec, then you thread the adjusting sleeve down and torque that to spec on the upper ball joint and then install the upper ball joint nut. This is a snap shot from the Moog installation instructions.

Ok thanks I thought I had to put it in first at 70 which doesn't work.

My Spicer book says 50 on the castle nut. Then 95-100 on the top nut while lining up the cotter pin slot

Heres the procedure from the 1971 truck service manual.
Lower balljoint nut to 70 ftlbs adjusting sleeve to 50 ft lbs Upper balljoint nut to 100 ft lbs- apply additional torque to align cotter pin hole
