Tailgate Bands

I have a 1979 GMC K35 crew cab I am working on.

My question is about tailgate panels/bands.

I have a few Chevrolet panels - one narrow band and a wide Chevrolet. But not sure which one is correct for a 79 and I have yet to see a GMC narrow panel.

Just looking for some direction.

Re: Tailgate Bands

Narrow bands came on Cheyenne trim (and Bonanza I think), and the wide bands came on Silverado trim.

Re: Tailgate Bands

I have 2 narrow band GMC trims that both came off Sierra Classics. They were off a 78 and 79.

My 79 K35 is a Sierra Grande which is lower on the trim packages so I figured it would have a narrow GMC band. But I am sure at this point in history it doesnt matter.

Re: Tailgate Bands

I'm not sure if the narrow band is correct for my truck, I've seen them both ways on the Sierra Classics. I have a friend with a 79 crew cab dually silverado and his has the narrow band too. I've got too much invested in narrow bands at this point to give up anyway!

Re: Tailgate Bands

John/13jraven,
I realize that you are very busy with your 79 GMC K35 crew cab project.
But I would really appreciate if you would reply to my last two PMs to you on the half cab.

Re: Tailgate Bands

Busy is right.

I just waiting on my 69 blazer to come back from the painter so I have something to mock it up. I have the specs but didnt want to build something without seeing if it fit. So I am in a holding pattern.

Side note, we got this 74 blazer done as a giveaway truck for our cancer charity - Wade's Army. Wadesarmy.org/blazer/

Full restoration from the ground up.

And got to assemble my crew cab crawler truck which I have over 2 years in fab on. Frame is blown apart for painting, them reassembly with the body and panels.

Crazy part, I have a real full time job, family, property to manage, weights to bang, arms to wrench in BJJ and a cancer charity - so I work on trucks to at night and weekends.
