NEw Carb Prolbems
I installed an edelbrock 1406 carb on my 350. the engine in the sig. problem is, it ran nice at idle, but under load it runs rough. it has a stumble off idle, and doesnt want to hold an idle when hot. the screws are adjusted about 2 turns out, where they seem to run best. I dunno what the manual says about it, cause that is all greek to me. i really have no idea what goes on. the problem does seem to go away at higher rpms. any suggestions?
thanx daler

If you bought the carb new it came with a manual that gives all the specs. to make it work correctly. Mine only needed minor adjustments to make it run fairly good. To make it run great I changed the needles and the springs under the needles. The manual explained exactly what to look for and how to fix it. In short read the manual its easy.

if you can't understand the manual you might be better off tacing it to a professional and have it done correctly

Orange, do you have an external tach or vacume guage? Or at the very least a really good ear. If so I'll walk you through setting up the idle portion of the carb. Once you get that then you can tackle the other areas

Hei, OK
Which vacuum port on the carb do you have the vacuum advance hooked up too. Looking at the carb the Left side is the ported advance ( HEI ) . The Righrt side is non-ported ( Manifold Vacuum all the time ) Both will work if you are on the (Hei) Left side try switching to the other side and see if it makes a difference. Make sure you plug the side you aren't using.l Also when the engine is Hot is the choke butterfly fully open ?

I have one of those carbs on a Ford 302 and have suffered some difficulties as well. It runs too rich and I assume I may need to change some parts. One suggestion however, is to pull the top and check the float levels. Mine were way off right out of the box. One side was much different than the other.

the easiest and best way i have found is to take it to a pro and have them tune it with their gas analyzer
