Firewall Insulation
I'm starting to finish the interior on my 69 C10 and would like some input on what I'm planning for the firewall.
Current plan: install flatline barrier material on the firewall and the put a firewall pad (with insulation )over it. I will use 3M adhesive to attach the pad to the flatline material and glue the clip heads in the holes (smooth firewall) to cover up those holes. My thoughts here is that this will provide both sound deadening and insulation as well. The floor will be carpet. Does this sound like a good plan or would another rout be better? Thanks |

Re: Firewall Insulation
On my hot rods I clean all the bad stuff off the inside floor pans. Then I put down a layer of Dyna Mat like material. It's self sticking. Then a layer of two sided foil insulation glued to the Dyna Mat using spray can 3M glue. Then the carpet.

Re: Firewall Insulation
Just finished putting the flatline barrier material in and I really like it.
The only draw back is on the firewall, it doesn't go all the way up. I'm thinking of ordering some of their sheets of barrier material and using the firewall pad as a pattern to cut them to shape, plus cut out all the holes. Installing this would eliminate using the original pad/jute. Any thoughts here. Is this enough protection for heat? Thanks |

Re: Firewall Insulation
I used the Lizard Skin heat/sound barrier when I redid the cab interior. It is supposed to be a great heat barrier from all I saw on YouTube. Here is how it looked going on and after paint. I did have to remove the dash to fix a rusted out area in the cowl and then reinstalled it after painting.
And yes, you can paint over the Lizard Skin. |
