I wonder what's original on that truck. I'll assume it was an actual factory K2500. But was it a work truck or ordered as a Sierra (or maybe even a Sierra Grande) as a personal recreation vehicle? I'm a diehard regular cab man, but that is one very nicely done crewcab

Very good question nowadays. It's done up very nicely by however did the work. The 4 door conversion could have been doneback in the day by an aftermarket coach builder, or could be done recently by a specialty restoration shop. If a modern conversion, I would spring for surburban extra doors instead of the period coach builder front doors. Many vehicles undergoing restoration often see more period options added, which IMO, is not a bad thing. A SPID photo would be nice, however, a new SPID could have been made. Before restoration photos are now the thing to get ahold of for us skeptical experienced buyers.

Re: 1970 GMC 2500 CUSTOM PICKUP…..4 door

My gut feeling is it's a Scott-Bilt that was recently converted to 4wd using a K2500 Sierra Grande. It could be a rare Scott-Bilt built off a K2500, could be a drivetrain/VIN-plate swap, or they stretched the K2500 chassis by modeling off the Scott-Bilt stretch job. It could be all the Sierra Grande stuff was added to embellish, just like all the options and period accessories. It could be an actual K2500 Sierra Grande someone ordered to be a Scott-Bilt conversion camper hauler, an ultimate dream truck for someone in 1970.

I usually like funky, but in this case I wouldn't want one of those trucks no matter how nice or how cheap. No problem with most of the four door conversions done these days by talented folks though.

Very interesting truck and I like most of it. However, the space between the front door window and the rear door window looks wierd and out of place, it detracts from the appearance of the entire truck. I understand why it is built that way, but it’s a major negative for me.

My feeling goes the other way. This conversion is correct for the time period and I would absolutely drive the heck out of that truck.

Re: 1970 GMC 2500 CUSTOM PICKUP…..4 door

I get the cab using a pair of front doors for the conversion. I can appreciate that this is done in a way that could have actually existed in 1970. A truck just like this (minus lift, tires, etc) "could have" been ordered. It's nice to see the way guys do crew cabs now, except it requires ruining a Suburban which is an iconic cool as heck vintage truck in it's own right. I'm not a crew cab fan. Regular cab trucks, K/5, or Suburban have always filled my needs.

A higher trim conversion could have been done back then, which IMO, would have been a rare bird (i.e. camping enthusiast), however, most seem to have built as base model (i.e. work crew trucks), as shown in Scott ad. I would assume that would be the reverse today if done at a resto shop.

First time I ever saw one of those Scott-Bilt's was when my neighbor who was an old retired surveyor was showing me some old pic's of a few job's he was on and he was standing next to one. I remember thinking it was a very odd looking crew cab truck compared to like a Dodge of that same era.

I agree.

Looks like it should have a steering wheel in the back seat.

First and only one I ever saw in real life was about 20 years ago. I was living in a small town, less than 3000 people. I was coming home from work, turned off the highway, made a few turns toward my house and passed one on the city street a few blocks from my house. I just about crashed my car watching it go by. I must have looked like a millennial texting cat vids or whatever the heck they are texting while driving.

Turns out the guy is a pal of da-burbs, proving once again that da-burb knows everybody in MN that owns a 67-72 Chevy truck/burb/blazer.

Holy shiz Batman that thing is hung like a horse. That’s the highest option old school conversion crew I’ve ever seen by long shot.

I had one of those Scott built trucks pass me on a car hauler about a year ago. I would love to have one because of the weird factor they have if nothing else.

Yeah, but the model code KE25934 tells what it was born as.

Re: 1970 GMC 2500 CUSTOM PICKUP…..4 door

That's a fancy Jimmy! So, was it ordered as a K2500 crew cab (Silver Book) when new or was the K2500 Sierra Grande a donor for the 4wd conversion on a plane Jane C2500? Was the 4wd gear added to the stretched C2500 chassis, was it a K2500 originally stretched, and was that a Sierra Grande? Need to see more than the SPID. This truck needs a known or documented history
