Made my first pass down the strip.

And a second and a third. Best was 13.484 at 104 mph. It was just a test and tune night. Time to start making changes to try and lower the 60ft time. Best was 2.178. I have a supercharger to go on it, but that will be further down the road.

I'll post a picture of it tomorrow.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

It has a 428 cu. in. Dart blocked, "LS" motor in it. 4l80e trans and a 14 bolt semi-float axle.

Motor was built to run a Whipple 2.9 Supercharger, which has been been rebuilt and will probably go on sometime this Summer.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

Nice! I am putting one of those 14 bolt's in my '65 for fear that the 12 bolt wont hold up to the 550 hp my measly 383 puts out!

A truck 12bolt will hold 550 no problem. If anything at all I'd just do c clip eliminators and good axles.

OP, is your truck 4wd? You have a brace kit for the idler and pitman arm and set of sleeves or rare parts or similar tie rods? Launch that thing in 4hi and see if it brings down that 60'. If you don't have those items, deffinitly don't do that though haha.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

I have the thick tie rods. But 4wd launch would slow me down. I was not spinning at all. My brakes would not hold to let me come up on the convertor. And it was dead hooking and "bogging" from the hit. I am looking into different tires (shorter and lighter then the 33"s on it) to help next.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

I got my "race wheel and tires" set up and tried to make it out to the teack today. But the truck is acting up and stalling, so I turned around and headed back home. I was within a mile of the track.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

Got the running issue resolved and got a rain free Wednesday.

Made it up to Milan and made a few runs with the new tires. Ran a new best of 13.298 at 106 mph. The DA looked to be about 1200 higher this time compared to last time.

New wheels and tires are 3" shorter. And all 4 equal out to 100 lbs lighter then the all terrains.

I think it is getting to be time to add the supercharger.

Had a cool Wendesday, so decided to go back to the track. Got a new pb. Now I can call it a 12 second truck.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

I got new o-rings and gaskets coming for the supercharger, should be here early this week. I need to go through all of it and see if I am missing anything. I know I need to find a 10 rib idler pulley. Then once it is installed, I will have to measure and find a 10 rib belt.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

Well, I thought I was going to be good to make it to the strip this week, but ultimatley I only made a belt shredder. I have an aftermarket 10 rib idler pulley that cocks sideways under belt tension and causes the belt to run off center on the crank.

The worst part is that I cannot find another belt in stock anywhere I have looked.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

That belt was a K100955HD. I am changing things up and will be using a shorter 10 rib belt for the supercharger and waterpump. Then a really short 4 rib just for the alternator. The only down side is I could not come up with a good way to drive the powersteering pump, so I bought an electric power steering pump.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

Weird you couldn't find a belt. NAPA shows 13 in their distribution network, 3 at my local distribution center, one in phoenix, and 9 through gates.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

I did not check with Napa. I am not a fan of their local store and I do not order online from them. But I did just check and they list it at $160.

I paid $90 at Summit and $75 at Rockauto for the 2 I destroyed.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

Ahh, we don't use the local NAPA much anymore at work ever since they went fully corporate. They were the best little community parts store but now....Either way sounds like you're on a better track by changing up things, shredding almost $200 in belts is no good.

Re: Made my first pass down the strip.

Made it to the track today.

I knew I was going to run into traction issues now that I am making a little power.

First pass I blew the tires off. Nothing there. I did not bring a pressure guage and I had no idea where they were at. Borrowed a guage from a fellow tester and holey moley, they were at 37 psi. I dropped them down to 20 psi and got back in the lanes.

Second pass, I noticed in the burnout box the pressure drop was going to help. Leaves good, throw the shifter into second but it does not shift. I bump the shifter again just as it shifts into second and it goes into 3rd. I messed with the settings a bit in the Holley, but I am going to have to learn how to tune the transmission control. Got back in the lanes.

3rd pass. It left alright, shifted 2nd still a little late but not horrible. This time it did not want to shift 3rd and I ended up in 4th so I lifted and rolled to a 11.501 at 101 mph. This is now my pb. Messed with the setting in the Holley again to try and get the shifts doing better. Got back in the lanes.

4th pass, I can't even fully remember what happened. I think it spun a few feet out, so I short shifted to second and then loss power. I thought the engine died, but it was still running. I get to the side still rolling- don't see anthing leaking on the track so through it back in first. It would only go 12 mph. Make it to the end of the track and stop in the return lane. I saw my alternator was not charging and thought maybe I lost both belts and that was all the air the engine could pull through the supercharger.

Popped the hood and only the alternator belt was missing. Did not see any other issues. Fire it up and it seems normal again. Decided to drive it home without the alternator. This is where I screwed up. Made it out of the track and started down the road. And bam. My new hood was inside the truck with me. In the fluster of deciding to drive it home as is, I did not check that my hood latched. So I ended up driving it home with a super busted windsheild and no alternator belt. Made it home, about a 1/2 hour away, at 11.6 volts.
