Re: GMC vin decode

Edit : This is for Chevy

If it just the year you are looking for.

The first digit in the VIN is the last digit of the year.

0=1960
1=1961
2=1962
3=1963
4=1964
5=1965
6=1966

That link is just for 1/2 and 3/4 tons.
I sent that about the same time he posted.

Re: GMC vin decode

Thank you all for the help. I was hoping to find out what year it is so that I could possibly see about getting a title for it

Re: GMC vin decode

As stated above the only thing a GMC vin tells you is F for 1964-1966 as a year. But , 1964 GMC VIN tags were still spot welded . 1965 GMC VIN tags used round rivets. 1966 GMC VIN tags used Rosette rivets . You have a 1965 GMC . There's other clues to the year but much more Indepth, like engine casting dates and trans and axle dates . Safe to say its a 65 by your VIN picture.

Re: GMC vin decode

One more thing , GMCs can be titled differently as many of these GMC trucks were titled " The Year it Sold" instead of the year manufactured . Chevrolet did not do that. Evidence of this has been found on numerous trucks but still somewhat uncommon .

Re: GMC vin decode

You can tell the year by the production number, for the 2500 the first series 1964 started with P-F1001 and H-F1001*, the second series 1965 P-F6001 Z-F2001 and the third series 1966 P-F12001 Z-F4001.

*The Oakland plant (H) closed in late 1963 after the F model series went into production. They move to Fremont (Z). the production numbers did not start over.
