1950 3600 - 1 or 2 key truck??
One key or two for the ignition, door and glove box from the factory??

I'm not positive but if you don't have keys you can pop the door lock out of the passenger door and the code is on the side of the lock to have a key cut with

I think what I saw was the Classic parts kit has the same key cut for ign, pass door and glove box, but with 2-4 keys in the full set.
I ordered a separate single door lock for the drivers door, being I figured out how to modify the latch, and it came keyed differently. I asked about getting all the same when I ordered, and their response was they are all different kits....and keyed different for each kit, so take it to a locksmith. I looked everywhere for an extra door lock in the full kit version everywhere to no avail.

They never sold a 47-51 with a drivers side outside door lock is the reason for that. I'm not even sure if a stock lock is set up so one can be added.

Used the old passenger arm to modify. Had to extend the heigth of the hold down bracket to accept the new lock arm. 180 reverse the arm and install into new drivers guts. The key lock blade slides into the drivers latch, and it operates just like passenger side. One side lock cover has to drop down, the other lift up.

I have parted out a lot of these trucks in the last 50 years . When I would find a really nice original (usually a 1 1/2 ton grain truck ) the same key would do everything. I would sell the ignition switch , glove box lock and door lock as a lot. They went out the door pretty fast . On a well used pickup things did not match as often.

the hardest part of rekeying one of these old locks to match a key is going to be prying the bezel off without damaging it. Then you just mix, match and delete the tumblers until you have something that works. if you have a spare lock or two you can probably fully match the key you have, there are usually only 3 or 4 tumbler heights to choose from
I've had several vehicles over the years with only 2 or 3 or even zero of the original 4 or 5 tumblers. if it looks like a lock and works like a lock it is a lock. Easier to pick than originally intended but thieves don't pick locks, they find stuff unlocked or brute force an entry |

You shouldn't have to pry the bezzel off if you can get the cylinder out to where you can read the code stamped in the housing.
I never throw an old key away and have a big ring of old keys to try in a lock and see if I can get it to turn I've popped the cylinder out of an ignition switch a few times with those keys.

I was meaning rekey a random lock to match a different key/lock combination, so you could match your doors/ignition/glovebox to one key

When dad finished restoring his 58 Impala convertible in the early 90's, He was able to read the tumbler and go to the service station which he worked at as a high schooler in the late 50's and use the original punch key machine that was still there and make copies. I thought that was the coolest old technology that still works.
Yay for small towns. And it is a single key for everything.

take your locks and see if you have pins that match.
So lets say you have three locks with 3 keys. But each of those locks has at least one pin that matches one key. Remove the pins that don't match a key. So it may be pin 1 on one lock stays, pin 3 on another pin 4 on the third. One key works all locks just used a different pin in each one to unlock. If you lucky. Or do like a friend of mine did. Just pulled all the pins. One key work for all in fact any key that would fit in the lock would. Heck even a screw driver did. He figured what are the odds now days someone has a key small enough to go in the hole. Most people have key fobs or some double sided key to large. and if someone shows up with a screwdriver they are getting in anyway key pins or not. if they wanted what was in the glove box they were getting in anyway not like they are the strongest locks. He just put a small switch under the dash that cut the power to the coil. And only used that if he was somewhere where the truck was going to out of his site for a long time. Plus how many people even know what a three on the tree is much less how hot wire a truck now days. if they want it that bad that is what insurance is for. He just never temped anyone by leaving something they want on the seat. "Locked" his door just to keep the curious from opening it. |

heck, hotwiring a truck is easy, just reach under the dash and pull the red and blue wire that is so readily handy and has extra wire looped up there for your convenience, like right there with nothing else interfering, then cut them, strip the ends with your teeth and touch them together. there willl be a couple of little sparks, then twist them together. the truck starts, the steering becomes magically unlocked, the alarm system is neutralized and the shifter works easily. just like you had a key.

haha, yup. grand theft auto, its easy. you can easily break the side window by simply punching it with your fist or elbow (give that a try and see how it works out for you) and you're in, or just slip a thin metal bar down next to the glass, wiggle it a bit and pull up. that opens ANY car door. slip in, reach under the dash and perform the previously mentioned procedure. thats if you don't have one of those do it yourself lock picking kits, haha.
