Glove box lock
I have a 62 C10 with original keys - 1 key fits the doors, ignition and glovebox. I took truck out for a ride today and when I tried to open the glovebox, the button will not go in. Tried turning the key from horizontal to vertical in the lock and same thing - button will not go in. I don’t remember if I locked it last time I closed it or not, but this is the first time the button will not budge. Are there any tricks to getting the button to open? Does anyone know if vertical or horizontal is “unlocked”? I’ll sacrifice the glovebox liner if I have to - will latch push down to release with button jammed? Can new locks be matched to an original key?
Thanks for your help! |

Re: Glove box lock
Try a little spray of penetrating fluid like Kroil.
And yup, new locks can be matched to your old key. |

Re: Glove box lock
Thanks Geezer, I sprayed the lock and no difference. I pm’d LockDoc and he confirmed that horizontal is “unlocked”, so I’m going to give that a few more tries. If that doesn’t work, LockDoc says he can hook me up with a used lock set to my key number.

Re: Glove box lock
I was able to get into the glove box through the side where it was stapled. Once I got the lock open and out of the door I could see that the latch was popping up past where the stops should be in the case - I think it just wore out. Thanks to LockDoc for sending me a new lock keyed to match my truck. Pic attached showing old and new lock cylinders.
