How to remove hood springs ??
I have a set of hinges removed and on the bench. Anyone know the safest and an easy way to remove the springs off the vehicle?
And then what is the best method for putting them back. I am blasting the hinges and would like to fold them in/out without the tension. Then paint.

Put hinge in vise. Use some kind of hook and just stretch them off. Not that much tension on them in the up position. To paint your springs inside and out just hook them to your floor jack axle and the lift bar. Pump up jack to stretch them apart.

just make sure the hinge is securely mounted to remove the spring
personally use a piece of chain

I read somewhere about someone who stretched the springs out & put some big washers (taped up to protect spring finish) in between the coils to hold it stretched, then hung the springs while someone held up the hood. He then lowered the hood a bit to free the washers.

The hinges are loose on the bench.
