700R install Q's
I was just wondering do I need to drill any holes in the frame so that the tranny crossmember lines up ? I am going to use 6 Cly motor stands. But just for memory sake if i was to leave it in the stock 8 Cyl mounts would there be a need to drill new holes /
Thanks

Mine is mounted in the v-8 position. I do not remember drilling any holes. That was 5 yrs ago though. Maybe I'm not a stickler but I do not see anything wrong with drilling 4-3/8" holes for better gas milage.

Hey easy there buddy, (Joke)
I am just trying to figure out if it's oky to put my cab on the frame before the motor and tranny are in place. I would rather put the cab on later if I have to drill the holes from the under side of the truck. Sorry I should have given the whole story.

My truck, with the engine in the small block holes, I had to drill another set of holes for the 700 swap. I actually didn't drill the upper 4 holes, just the lower 4.
on edit: the reason I only drilled the lower 4 is because it was near impossible to do the upper ones with the truck fully assembled.

I drilled holes in the frame because i had a problem with the tranny cross member. The lip on it blocked the rear pan bolts. So i redrilled the holes in the crossmember to a more forward location, giving me room to get to the pan bolts. And that caused me to have to drill all new holes in the frame. Do you have a low or high hump cab? When I had the low hump, the spot weld lip barely touched the tranny, problem is solved with the big hump though.

No problem Buddy.
I have a low hump cab. I guess it's a good thing that I was thinking about the tranny crossmember bolt's before the truck went together. What should I use for a tranny mount just the same one that I would use for a 350 tranny ? Thanks for your help guys.

I had to drill new holes. If you use a long bit you can drill up through the bottom holes and make the top holes too!

The crossmember I have in mine doesn't even touch the top of the frame, if that's what you guys are talking about as far as 'top holes'...four holes in the bottom of the frame from under the truck is cake.
Also...with my 350 in the original position, and a low-hump cab, I haven't had any clearance problems between the tranny and cab...but it's CLOSE!

I used a camaro tail shaft and the v-8 mounts and the rear holes in the frame lined right up.
