Here are some pics of my custom center console. It fits like a glove!!. Im putting some bondo on it to cover the screw holes, and to fill all the cracks. Im going to paint it the same color as my truck. I stole that "POWER" button from an old computer. My CD player will mount in that rectangular hole.

Will be interested in seeing the finished product. What is the slot to the right of the round holes?

How are you going to keep it from moving around when turning corner and going over bumps?

I always leave the top off till last Or keep the top on a hinge that way you can use angle brackets to mount it to the truck. usally one will do it in the right spot. Use a nut and bolt so u only need one hole!
Also if you have alot of electronics in the consol you can wire it all up and go back for repairs/replacements. Makes a great stash box too! I once had a 12" sub box inbetween two buckets in a 76 3/4 tonn that was all smooth from the dash to the back cab wall ! Very LOUD in these trucks Cheers ![]()

If you look at the back end of the console, it fits the contours of the bottom of these dashes, this will hold it in place, also the 4x4 shifter will hold it in place. The console is long enough that it butts up to the front of my bench seat so that the seat will hold it in place. Between the dash, 4x4 shifter, and bench seat, i think it will stay in place. There is no actual bolt on parts of this console. it just sits there.

I though about doing that one time. The butting it up against the dash thing is the only thing that bugged me with my design. I though by butting it up in there I would loose the air flow from my floor vent. but then i got to thinking that I could probably take that bottom vent apart and run some actual hoses up into the consoe that would blow outwards on each side of the console. For a cup holder design I though about taking one out of those vehicles where they just slide out. PUt em on the side where they would slide out towards you and one for your companion. that way it would free up the inside of the console for a nice big ol booming speaker. ............................................................. god I'm rambling I"ll shut up now

67chevemall and wrmz71 - i was using your same techniques and didnt know it, i was planing on running actual vents from the heater to the sides of the console with vents in the sides, and i was going to hinge the top for another place to store stuff
great looking console you got there

Looks good man.
Can you give me some measurements of the console? I'm still thinking about making one myself, yours looks good to start me off. Thanks in advance. Cya, Edmond ![]()

here are the dimensions of my console, if anyone wants it. This was made for a 4x4 (High Center Hump). youll need to add a couple inches to the height for a 2wd.

You'll have to let us know how the vents work. I think mine suck. (stock)

Looks even better now that you have the filler sanded off. Have you considered carpeting the sides and painting the top? That might look real nice. Keep us updated.

CONGRATULATIONS: NICE JOB!!!
BTW: I solved the heater issue by taking off the vent located at the bottom of the heater box (where heat originally exited) and built a "diverter/splitter" out of metal flashing....painted it black; reinstalled and now heat goes equally (splits) to the left and right and will not blow directly onto back of console (mine also runs forward to the dashboard).... Again....GREAT JOB! 7T1BURB |
