switching gauge cluster on 78 Chev

My 'new ' 78 Chev stepside currently has gauge cluster with big speedo and gas gauge and four idiot lights. I bought a different cluster on ebay (from a 73 Suburban) That has all four gauges on the left with the big speedo and Factory tach. How many different sending units and what-not will I have to purchase to make this switch? Will the wiring for the idiot lights hook directly to the new gauges or do I need more 'stuff' to get them all hooked up? Any help, or links to other web sites woulbd be appreciated.

You are going to have problems swapping a '73 into a '78. 73-75's uses an AMP gauge, all others use Volts. That means rewiring to get it to work. Also the '73 will have a mechanical Oil sending, were the '78 will have electrical.

You need to contact Crossy (Dave Crossy) who is our resident expert regarding guages for our trucks. Use search feature to find discussions on this subject . I remember this was heavily talked about in previous posts. Search using Crossy or gauges as the key work. Good Luck!

No doubt that Crossy is the expert on tach dashes (among other things), but our old buddy Captkaos is right up there too. He has had a few tach dashes in his life time.

rocktriviagod I may have what you need. Send me a PM and we can discuss it....
