Pics and questions about my 70 K5

Although this is a duplicate of some of the pics in the 67-72 Message Board, I wanted to post it here to get some info.

Here are a couple pics and a link to more pics of the 1970 K5 Blazer I picked up Saturday.



Here's the filthy 400 small block with what appears to be a 2 barrel carb.



Do these appear to be original seat fabric? I haven't seen cloth before in trucks and Blazers I have seen.

Tire carrier - anyone know if this is a stock item?



Grill and bumper in very good condition - anyone know if the push bar is a stock option?

Here is a pic of one of the rocker boxes. Completely intact!



The rear hatch does not meet the tailgate. The hatch has some screw holes along the bottom edge. Is there supposed to be a weather stripping of some sort that goes from the hatch to the tailgate?

Another question - where the top meets the windshield frame there is a pretty big gap. When I put in new weather stripping, should it take care of that gap? Looks like a lot of rain water will come through this area. There is some surface rust on the side of the frame, but nothing damaging.

Took some time last night to clean out all the junk the previous owner had acquired in the Blazer. Filled up a trash can to the brim! Really cleaned up pretty well.

What do you all think of the driver and passenger seat - are they factory seats? Recovered maybe?





Rear seat cover looks pretty good but very brittle.



Rear carpet behind seat is a bit damaged, but that is no problem. Floor is good beneath carpet.

Good score on the new K5 Yukon.

The front seats appear to be stock.

There should be a filler piece that mounts to
the top of your tail gate for hatch to rest against.

I can't tell about your top, however seal could
make a big difference.

Nice rocker box.

Appears you have a complete and soild K5.

It looks like you are missing the rubber pieces that go at the corners of the windshield frame. Look in the LMC Catalog and you'll see what it looks like.

The piece that goes along the tailgate is just a pice of metal that sticks up above the edge of the gate a little. I think most Blazers are missing them - you'll want a soft top before it is completed anyway. I'd say the seats are worth keeping, though they may be out of a '73+ Blazer. Rear seat looks stock and the roll bar looks like my SmittyBilt

Like bouncytruck said,between the piece on top off the door and the weather strip that goes in the top,it should close the gap.I would get rid of the carpet.It smells and traps moisture when you get caught in the rain with the top off!The rear seat looks stock,just needs the arm rest pads.Put in a front cage.It will keep the body ridged when the top is off.The seats look like newer seats.

I believe the push bar was a dealer option on the Blazers (but don't hold me to it!). I have seen a couple on Blazers, but not too many. I like the look! Do those lights work?

I haven't hooked up a battery yet to see. I think the push bar is growing on me. Would look great powdercoated black. Thanks for the welcome to the club - I've wanted in for a long time!

Nice to see someone else with a orig. lookin' 70 K5!! I like it. I "think" the seats look orig....might be from a 73 and up, cause the passenger seat bracket handle looks a little different than mine. Mine is shorter. They look like they work great tho! You have a lot of the parts that are hard to come by so have fun! Can't wait to see some progress pics. What are your plans?

My first K5 had a grill gaurd/push bar. It extened out over the head lights. I have seen several different ones for sale on e-bay over the years so I would guess they were aftermarket.

My plans are to initially just get it running and get the various potential rust areas protected then enjoy it for a few years. My 69 project has shown me that projects take a long time and I don't want to tackle too much right now.

Present lift appears to be 4" and I will want to get rid of the rear blocks and go all spring. Front springs must not be right for this application as they are so long that the rear of the spring touches the frame. Shackles have no where to move as it is right now.

Congrats on the purchase. I have enjoyed all that you have shared on your truck and looking forward to your K5.

My K5 has what I believe is a factory/dealer tire carrier, roll bar, brush guard. I can take some pictures as you need them. Dan

I see another big block

Glad you got it home. Your going to catch yourself lovin it when the weather gets nice and the top comes off. It's a whole different feeling IMO.

It has a 400 sb so I think I better not get any wild engine swap ideas. A 400 ought to be fun in it. Yep, I can't wait to take the top off. I know I better replace the rubber body mounts as most of them are about gone. Could see the body bouncing a bit when it was on the trailer as I was motoring down the road.
