carrier bearing
how do I get the orginal carrier bearing out. It looks like I have to remove the rivits on the bracket. help please

On the c-10's the bolts screw into the housing from the top. They have a 9/16" hex head on the two bolts. To remove the bearing from the housing is a matter of pushing the bearing out of the rubber that encases it. Of course the drive shaft has to be separated.

If your rubber is bad you can get the whole unit.I know Napa sells them localy.When You take the driveshaft apart,clean the slip joint and regrease.When the joint gets dirty and gummed up it can cause problems that people think has to do with the rear or trans.Just my $.02

Yep if the rubber is bad then you are going to half replace the whole thing anyways. replacing is the easiest fix. Have fun with the U-joints.

they only sell the whole thing so you have to replace the metal housing

NAPA and pepboys will sell just the bearing.There was a post a while back about the spot welds breaking on the carrier bearing housing.I ran a weld across the flange just in case.
