If your talking about a full camper shell (not just a cap) as their name implies, they're good for going camping. Any other time, take it off. If it's just a cab-high cap, they're handy for protecting cargo.
Ultimately your decision. |

Take it off and see! I havnt seen very many of our trucks with caps on them. So just pop it off for a little while and see how you like it!

camper shells are caps. a slide in camper is what you're thinking of, Zilverado. IMO, take it off, you'll like it alot better.

i honestly do not care for them at all, on any truck. i think you will like the look of the truck alot better without it.

It's all personnal preference. I have seen one street truck in my area in these bodies that had a cap that I liked and though looked good. It was a fiberglas and followed the body lines fairly well. The windows were shaped simular to a K5 glass. It made the truck look like a long K5.
Now on a 4x4 that is built for the trail I have seen some Knap all steel boxes I liked. They are all function but I like the industrial all buisness look. Security on a shell is just about a non point unless it's a steel sheel like a Knap. The average latch mechanisim of the average aluminum or fiberglass is pitiful. I had somebody decide they wanted to see in the back of my truck and they simply grabbed the handle and gave it a jerk. It bent the rods and opened right up. Does let you haul reasonably large objects in a dry space.

i have one for both my trucks that work.. i keep em off of there unless i need to use them for a specific job.like hauling bags of cement in the rain or something personally i think the whole idea of having a pickup is the open air back if i wanted a vehicle with a covered 8 foot back id buy a burb!

The first thing I did with mine was take it off and give it away.
I guess I could have kept it, but it was old, worn, leaky, and ugly.

I had one on an 83 longbed that i used to have. Most of the time it was mostly in the way, for me anyway. Also did'nt like the way it obstructed my view out the back. My two cents worth.
