GMC grille question
Riding down the road today, I saw an old GMC in a field. It had a '67-'68 hood with letters on the hood. Is that a '68? I know that one of those years (I assume '67) had GMC embossed in the center of the grille. Also, are '69-'70 grilles and '71-'72 grilles the same respectively? (like Chevy)

'67 GMC had letters embossed in the grille
'68 GMC looks like the '67 but with the letters on the hood '69-'70- changed front grille and letters stayed on hood, looks like '71-'72 but with an all white or all chorme grille and eyebrows. '71-'72 Looks like '69-'70 but with black paint in an embossed area on the grille center and surrounds the grille.

Not trying to hijack, but....Did any GMC's come with hoods like that on the 67-68 Chevys? I have only seen a couple pics of them and I couldn't really tell what had to be done...I've got a 68 Chevy hood I'd like to try to put on my 69 GMC front clip which would then go on my 71 GMC. Would it work without butchering the grill too much?

That is not 100% correct, the 67 grill is a one year production, with the letters GMC embossed in the center. The sheet metal was the same as Chevy.
In 68, the same sheet metal as chevy again, and the GMC lettering was moved up to the hood. The grill now has no lettering, but the same otherwise. In 69, The actual grill, was unchainged. The hood went to the 69 - 72 chevy hood, but the fenders remained as 68 pieces. There was a chrome top rail and 'eye brow' trim on the fenders, which gave the nose a new look. 1970 was the same as 69 as far as the grill and body goes. In 71, there was a new less agressive grill, with an emboseed section in the center which was painted black. 1972 was anchainged from 71. In essence, there were only 3 GMC grills. The 67 with the lettering. The 68 - 70, all chrome (or painted) and the 71 - 72, which were only in chrome with the black center section. |

Thanks, Longhorn. Now I'll know what I'm looking at.
