Question to cut or not to cut

Just looking for some opinions on wether or not I should cut my dash for a CD player.

Do what you think is best and don't look back.. Of course if you have a rare ,highly optioned truck you might not want to cut it.

I spent a lot of money to buy the Custom Autosound unit with the 6 disc changer, kick panel and dash speakers - sounds like crap.

Cut it if music is important to you.

updating

I don't know how many of you watched the Barrett Jackson auction, but the cars that brought the most money were the updated cars for the first time instead of the concourse ones.

I'd cut it and not look back.

Best pass with the old dragtruck:

Best pass with the street 406 hydraulic roller motor w/ mild plate tuneup

how about a custom console underneath the dash---you could remove it later---just a thought

If you are keeping the truck for a long time cut it if you want to. It will be more convenient for you. If you may sell it soon don't cut it, that way if the previous owner wants it original they have it that way, and if not they can cut it.
And - its not like it can never be fixed. That's what a welder is for. People weld on new rockers everyday, and that's not a big deal.
On a dash that I had the PO but it but then folded it back, they did a great job and you couldn't tell it was folded back, but then when the dash was fixed the tabs were just bent back and welded.
Or you could always keep the pieces you cut out in case you ever want to fix it.

That's a good idea. I thought of putting mine in my new console and didn't even think of suggesting it.

cut it, you can always replace the dash or weld in a patch panel from a donor truck if you wanna go back... not difficult at all...

I dont think too many people are looking for 100% stock chevy, I wouldnt pay less if it had a cd player in it, I would actually consider it a bonus, if it was a 71 Monte SS 454 then I would never cut the dash, but its a chevy truck and will probably be cut in its life anyways, almost 73-87 i see has the dash cut

There are just too many options to cutting, IMO. Especially for a radio

Cut it, but be very careful. There is almost no room for error. If you mess up, the face plate of the CD player won't cover it. The last one I did, i cut the square to small, then filed the rest to fit the CD player mount. Took a little extra time, but made the fit exactly right.

If you want a in-dash CD player cut away just do clean cuts, but I highly recommend you DON'T CUT THE DOORS FOR SPEAKERS!!! They always get ruined by moisture when installed in the doors.

pull out the air saw!

I say you put a 8inch screen there get some buckets seats and a center console that has the stereo mount inside and drop in a headunit and a dvd player

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

i agree with Paul, don't cut the doors for speakers. its a pain in the butt trying to find new doors that aren't cut and/or fixing the cut ones.

I used a Dremel tool and cut the corners to fit an AM/FM/CD in my son's '69. My cab has A/C, so I have been very reluctant to cut it. I have a Pontiac AM/FM (needs the Multiplexer unit to be complete) that I am considering having rebuilt for my truck. Then, maybe an XM satellite tuner....nah. It's just an old school truck.
