Would a broken choke cause it to die sometimes?
Sometimes, even after I've driven the truck. I go to start it, and I go to take off, and the idle acts like it wants to die. (and sometimes it DOES die.) Any idea what causes this? Is my choke broken, or my carb just SNAFU?

Yes, if the choke is stuck on, it would run very poorly when it's warm. You'd also probably notice a rich smell from the exhaust.

TIM,
A faulty choke can cause the symptoms you describe. It's fairly easy to check the choke for proper operation. The engine and choke need to be cold (i.e. first thing in the morning) and ambient air temp 60-80 deg. The choke plate should open within five minutes of engine startup. An electric choke should be getting 12-15 volts. If it fails to open and you have this voltage, then the electric choke is faulty and needs to be replaced. If you don't have 12-15 V, then you have a wiring fault somewhere and need to start checking wires and connectors. If you have a manifold heat choke, check the manifold heat riser tube for damage or obstruction. If OK, then the choke spring is probably faulty and the choke needs to be replaced. The good news is that the choke replacement can be done easily and without removing the carb. Good luck! Kevin
