Shaving Drip Rails on an 85? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm a newbie to this great board and for my first question I want to know who has shaved the drip rails on their 73-87. Several people locally have cautioned against shaving the drip rails saying they will definitly leak. I fail to see where it would leak though since there is a seal on the top of the door to keep water from coming in. I'd like pics, info, whatever you guys have got. I'm confident about shaving everything else on the truck and don't want to leave the drip rails on if I don't have to. So what does everyone think about shaving the drip rails? This will be an almost daily driven truck but I dont' see it being a problem really. ANy help is greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of mine. My 73 actually never had drip rails, they weren't offered until '74 I believe...either that or they were an option back in '73 and the original owner opted not to have them.

My truck does not leak...but if it rains it can be like a waterfall when you open the door. I just open it, wait a second or two, then exit.

Shaving them makes our trucks look alot cleaner.

I agree that it looks 100% cleaner without the drip rails. Thanks for the input guys. I haven't actually purchased the truck yet but should be here in the next few weeks as soon as my current ride is sold.

I shaved mine. Here are naked pictures of BADBOW. Just replace the door seals. I have no leaks. Only problem is when it rains and I have to get out.

Give me a 1/4 inch socket and I'll take mine off in about 5 minutes. THey are screwed on Burbs.

I could have sworn the were screwed on my buddies dad's 87 as well .

They were screwed on my 87. I pulled them and filled the holes.

I don't have them on my '73 but I am going to put some on it when I get it painted in a couple of weeks. It does leak bad when you open the door.
