interior vinyl question
I have a pair of original blazer interior rear vinyl panels. There are no speaker holes or real damage. BUT, the vinyl material has dried out, shrunk and pulled away from the fiberboard backer. Any way to save these? Any way to restore/soften the vinyl so they could be re-installed on a new backer board?
Thanks, Harry

I am not sure if this will work but I had a similiar problem with my dash pad that was on my 65 SS Impala. I don't recall where the recommendation came from, but it was from a restoration source.
Anyway, per the recommendation I coated the dash pad with vasoline and let it set for a couple of months while I was working on the restoration. The pad turned out beautiful. Removing the vasoline took some time but that was (7) years ago and the dash pad is still looking great. Of course the car is not left outside, now. Jim |

Jim,
That's the kind of info I'm looking for. I would have never thought of that. I'm going to test it on another vinyl truck door panel first. Wonder if I should do both sides of the vinyl now that it's off? Thanks, Harry

I was a little apprehensive about trying vasoline but felt that I had nothing to lose. I believe that I would do both sides.

Saddle soap and mink oil works great to restore vinyl or leather.
