VIN # Question

Does anyone know if the VIN number will tell if a truck is a long or short bed?

Thanks.

wouldn't the frames be differently lengths between long and short beds?

Yeah. I was looking at a project to convert a long bed with totaled frame into a short bed.

I have an extra shortbed chassis, swapping sheet metal would be cheaper than having a bent frame straightened.

I was wondering if the VIN would create a problem with the authorities.

Normally they verify the VIN by the one in the cab. On don't think you would get in trouble for swapping frames, it is just swapping VIN's that would cause you grief.
