Gas tank ?????
I'm gonna try gas tank conversion and was wondering if I
might save money by getting tank from junkyard or am I better off ordering a kit. Also does kit come with a sending unit. If not will a sending unit out of a 92 chev Z71 work. It came out of same truck that I'm gonna use motor and computer from. I keep getting deeper and deeper into hole it seems.

The Z71 unit won't wortk with the stock gauges. Remember if buying a tank out of a yard look real close. It is 30 years or near old (Blazer style tanks)and probably has the same or junk in it then the one you have now. Might be better off getting one of the metal tank kits from a vender.

Also, some vendors offer a tank kit that includes the correct sending unit, seals, straps, etc....(you can look at the FAQ section and find a post that gives a part number for a kit from the Truck Shop). I think a complete kit would save you some driving time trying to locate the little things you may have forgotten about, as well as a few bucks.

Hey Beamer,
Where you puttin' the tank? Rear frame? If so, how are you running the filler? In the bed floor or out the side marker light? I am going to work on my side marker filler this weekend if you want to compare notes or anything. I'd sure be interested in knowing how yours is progressing on the tank move. I am about to order a tank kit myself, but already have all the parts to do the marker setup.

Got my tank from WES over a year and a half ago, my filler is in the backside of the wheelwell. Works great.

Gonna stick fuel tank under bed, rear frame. Like the
side marker light idea might go with that. Putter I'll send you a pm with cell phone number holler if you get a chance, if my honey-do's are done I might try and break away for a little while. Bill, thanks for info on sending unit, I pm'd you with a bunch more ???? hope you can help Don

Has anyone tried mounting a saddle tank like the '73 and newer trucks have? I'd like to move the tank out of the cab of my trucks, but don't want to loose my spare tire.

There is a trcuk here in town that has had saddle tank's from a newer chevy mounted on it and IMO it look's like crap... The tank's could not go up under the bed side far enough and so about 4-6 inch's of the tank hang's down under the bed side...

My truck had them. They held dirt up against the base of the bed sides and started rust. I took them off when I bought the truck.
