Even if the engine was upside down, that's a steal at $2400!

That's a good buy for $2400. I can just see that new wood bed kit in there now!

I agree, but there are some strange things about it. The e-brake is one.. Maybe they messed up a back plate and that was all they had to replace it... Who Knows.. I agree, it's a good buy though..

I could be mistaken, but the rear end looks like a 1-ton unit from a late 70's/early 80's
GM pick up. For $2400.00 that thing would be sitting in my driveway right friggin now! If it were me, I would get the truck & install the proper Dana 60 rear end and finish installing the rear shocks. I've seen good Dana 60's sell for $250/$300. If you ever feel the need to part with it, give me first shot at it!!! That's one choice truck. rwgregory

Well, look what followed me home. I spent most of Saturday looking her over with a fine toothed comb, and cleaned her up quite a bit. You'll see a better shot of the damaged I mentioned to the front of the bed. It sucks, but fixable.

When I picked it up, the guy handed me the key and a remote. Yep, had a Viper alarm system. That would explain why the previous owner had 5 horns hooked up (yes I am serious). Tried the alarm system last night, don't think I am going to keep it, although it was cool to push a remote and have your instrument lights flash to acknowledge input. Now comes the hard task of un-doing all the weird little things previous owners do to their trucks.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat...course I won't be able to find anything close when I get ready to deal my 73 out of the picture and get a 67-70.

Alright, hopefully Wes can chime in here or anyone else that can help identify this axle. I took a pic of the passenger and driver sides, one has an ebrake location that looks normal. The other wraps around the axle to go in. I'm thinking someone installed two of the same thing?
Also took a snapshot of the axle castings. What is the tube on top of the axle, is this a breather or am I missing something to attach to this tube? |

One last shot for the evening, I have never seen tranny bars like this before. Not sure of the purpose, but it sure made dropping the pan easier having this "arms" on each side to hold it in place. Maybe I just haven't been around enough, but thought this may be unique to the V6 or something.

If you are ever interested in getting a truck of your hands I may be interested. I'm not exactly sure where in Utah you are(I believe you have said before but I forgot). I'm in Ogden.
Cool looking truck by the way..nice addition.

IIRC, other board members have claimed that GMCs sometimes had rear D60s.
Vortex, looks like two drivers side backing plates were bolted to the axle ends. To state the obvious, I would definitely break into both sides to get a clear idea of what's been done with the rear brakes. Could be a safety issue. I'd also guess that the shocks weren't bolted up because they aren't long enough. Have you tried to extend them their full length and see if they reach the axle brackets? And did the choke fix you mentioned make the engine run fine?

I may have to take it in, I tried bleeding the brakes over the weekend since one of the reservoirs was completely empty. It only helped stopping power by a small amount, I think somethings very wrong with the brakes (doesn't feel like the booster works either.) No, I haven't tried hooking up the rear shocks yet. I have been too busy replacing all the fluid, filters, etc. You never know when they were changed last from the previous guy. In fact, I'll post a picture of the fuel filter - I'm 99.9% sure that thing was the very same filter the truck rolled off the factory with. As for the carb issues, still working on it. Last time I drove her around the block to check brakes, I had a nasty oil leak that I am sealing up. Yesterday playing with the carb linkage, I also noticed I have to change the carb gasket, fuel is soaking through and running down the intake manifold. Gotta fix that fire hazard. |

I am still working on changing out filters and fluids before driving this thing, and I am glad I'm doing this. Check out the fuel filter, the second pics shows what was coming out of it after removal!

Another score! I'm carefully taking out the viper alarm the P.O. had installed, and it looks like he had it wired up for power door locks! I'm betting if the alarm was at some point controlling this, I'm hoping to figure out a way to control this another way.

The casting number doesn't do me much good. It comes up invalid part number. The should be another number that starts with 3 letters stamped in the housing or on top of the passinger side axle tube. I should be able to identify it with that. At least if it is a GM rear-end. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Alright, thanks for your help. I will keep looking. What is the tube on top? A breather or something for the diff?
